How long ( mileage) have people had them on their cars and have you have any problems associated with them?
I had a 2003 bmw 320d that I had the ECU re-mapped at 37k, the turbo went after 1.5k ( filling the cat with oil!), then 2 injectors at 45 and 55k, then took it for service at 60k and the turbo was on its way out again, so its fair to say im a bit nervous of doing it to the golf.
was thinking of the blue fin as this is the least "aggressive" of the bunch it seems.
I know re-maps are on here loads but its any probs that im interested in

I've had my last 3 cars mapped with no issues.
The 320d has a known issue with the turbo failing, it probably would have failed anyway :smiley:

....Revo Stage1 remap on at 23k miles, now at 52k miles without problems and the confidence of full backing by Revo and acceptance by my VW dealer.
I wouldn't describe it as "aggressive" but just more power but smoothly delivered in a range which delivers driveability.

The quality of the remap will have a bearing on longevity.
If you have a poor map that asks too much from the turbo or simply dumps loads of fuel in the it isn't going to do your car a whole lot of good. £125 meet in the layby job from eBay sounds tempting initially.

time will tell on any remap, Gti's are still reletively new, so theres now difinative answer .So far their hasnt been any reports of major mechanical failures.

Not any more, been around for 4year now
I did 65k mapped in my previous 1.8T which was driven hard most the time (comp car!) had a new turbo @70k but this was down to the oil feed failing (remap might not have helped). Only obvious wear was on the brakes :evil: set of Brembo's every 10k at almost £200 dealer fitted :shocked:
As for the Golf - 10k odd so far and no problems.

Agree with 4 years the cars been out, but the remaps came later for the 2.0tfsi??. Even so, still early days, major failures can take a while to
show up.

....Sure, but it should be taken into account that established tuners like Revo are VAG specialists who have been applying their dark art for several generations of VW engines. Also, they do rigourous testing - They can't afford to make mistakes which cost their customers, and so much of their business also relies on word-of-mouth - based, of course, on how good they are.
I think that how well an engine lasts is also down to the overall mix of modifications and to some extent on how it's driven. People tend to think that when you have a remap you are caning it all the time - Simply not so. One of my VW dealer's mechanics actually said to me that my Revo remap would be beneficial in some respects (and then he got technical!).
I spent over a year researching which remap to do and was extremely cautious, being a remap virgin, and I didn't take the plunge until 23k miles and after many of my hardware mods.
Anyway, my friend, you're still trying to convince yourself that you don't want to mod. The fact is that you don't need to unless you plan to do a Hurdy and become a drag queen king or track it, and for fast road use the Ed30 comes ready to rock n roll straight outta da box!

Remaps on their own are a good way of getting extra bang for your buck. Continuing on to get the last drop of power/performance out of your car WILL be expensive. Each part modified tends to mean something else needs modifying to compensate. :nerd:
