Hi, we have just fitted a new self-adjusting clutch cable to our 1993 MK3 Golf and it has a securing type strap on it. Does this need to be released now we have fitted it? The original one had been cut off and the Haynes manual does not give very clear info on this. Everything seems to be working but we would like to know just in case it goes wrong again!
Thanks, Carly.

You just undo the two sides (pull them away from cable housing)

Yes you have to undo the plastic strap on it! I made the mistake of not undoing this and the cluth still worked fine but the pedal dropped slightly as the tension was lost.
Undo the strap and it will be fine.

As said....undo the strap (over the years Ive come accross these straps being left clipped together and its a good way to tension the clutch cable if your selling!!)

Thanks guys - just off to undo it now!

Yea unclip them!
its only to put the cable under tension for when you change the clutch etc
It does make my biting point alot lower when its clipped on tho, but this can burn the clutch out faster apparently!
