Well i was researching my next project, 20vt lump, looking around for a donor car. Autotrader, etc.
happened to look at mk3 gti's during the searches.
As for my next project i would get a mk3 shell to put the 20vt lump in. But then i had a thought:
Why not get the mk3 with engine, etc, i.e. a complete car and use that until i go ahead with the project. Sell the 1.4 and get a proper mk3 golf!!
Then insurance, i thought no chance; a long shot, but actually no. For a MK3 Golf GTI 16v was £1500.
Thats fully comp, me as the main driver with 1yr no claims. I have my parents on there, but was honest about everything!
Sweet!!!! Now do i get a GTI?!?!?!?!? I think i just might!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited and i havent even got one yet and i dont even know if im going to!!!! Probs a silly thing to ask a bunch of mk3 golf enthusiast's
"ummm, do i get a valver or stick with the 1.4????"
Now i get a load of answers like "wtf  , OF COURSE YOU DO!!!!"
I figured i can use the gti while i plan and rebuild a 20vt engine and then once the 20vt lump is ready to go in i can take out the 16v and put the 20vt in.
Wow, i need a lie down and a beer now!
LL

So insurance renewal is Nov 08, so i will be getting it around then.
16v, 3dr, defo mk3!!! at least now i will have electric windows!!
sunroof, not to bothered, not really that bothered about the extras, its the engine that counts.
Color - well i voted black!!! Blue would be OK though i guess............

Coming from a 1.4 to a valver you might just decide to stick with it :shocked:rather then swap it for the 20v lump.

20vt will be one of these projects on the side, that may or may not happen. BUt yeah going from 60bhp to 150bhp should be fun!
Daz, you make a valid point!
Cheers

And can be made to about 170 bhp with cat back exhaust, induction kit and remap and that lot should cost about £600 ontop of what you pay for the car so consider your options carefully.
-
i will probs get a catback system, induction kit and remap, so 170bhp sounds nice!

I MAY be selling my valver.... :undecided:
-
Driving 140 miles from ED38 today to home, my stainless cat back and sports cat gave me a head ache.
Having a car louder than a jet fighter is not cool on long journeys.
-
Why not get a 8V to start with.
-
8vs are cool to start with, gets you used to a bit more go. But i think in the near future i might be getting something a bit more beefy.
Going from 1.4 to 16v would be dangerous.! lol
-
thought about the 8v, but i dnt want to keep changing cars. I know that if i buy an 8v, i will keep wishing i had bought a 16v for that extra beef!
btw, i understand the "louder than a fighter jet" thing. Drove back from bristol the other day and wow is it loud on long journeys. I got a powerflow catback (from Rmachines, cheers m8 ;) ).
Well i got a couple months to look for a good valver.......
i guess i should look local as i should probably test drive it.
Ohh and i tried out an new S3 a couple weeks back, and that was v quick, 265bhp! I was able to drive it fine though. BUt i do understand the 1.4-valver concept, as an "accident waiting to happen" , but i love mk3's too much to trash it that bad! :D
Cheers,
LL ;)
