Title: Sunroof seal *&$^!"
Post by: ToRo on 31 August 2008, 13:56
I took my seal off the sunroof yesterday to sort the leak out, however now I cannot get it back on!

Any ideas on how to get the seal back on? Please?

err the same way it came off?  I presume that you took the whole of the actual sunroof out to get the seal off? If not, you may have to take the slide panel out re-fix the seal then refit the slide panel...its what i had to do with my mk2.   gentle tap with a rubber mallet does the trick as well if the rubber is really tight going back on but not too much otherwise you'll damage the rubber n cause cracks etc if its old.  Presume you checked the drainage holes as well for the leak...they often get blocked?

No I just pulled it straight off =/

Yeah the offside drainage hole is blocked, but no idea how to unblock that :(

But now I know what it is I can put the seal back on and sort that :)

Thanks for your help dTEA, mucho gracias!

My sunroof drain holes were blocked. I use a piece of very stiff wire about the same thickness as a wire coat hanger. It needs to be long enough that you can see it emerge out of the drain tube exit near the door hinge. Just 'rod it thro a few times and it should be fine.

I wouldn't use metal...use an old bike brake cable...they are plastic so won't cause any damage to anything else...plus the back brake is usually just long enough to do the whole one...i'd clean both drainage whilst you are on tbh.
