Title: Fitting Hottuning coilies

Hi, am about to have my Hottuning coilies fitted to replace the original shagged suspension on my 89 gti.

Can anyone give me a list of what i'll need, ie which top mounts to go for etc.

Never done this before so will take all the help i can get, many thanks

Hi Tats

basic spanner set and a heavy hammer. You may also need that special tool to undo the topmounts (you will need the special bolt off your old set)


I just get the same matching GTi topmounts. Mine are NON genuine topmounts but have been fine so far.

Can I give a shout for g60 top mounts?
I believe they should fit hottuning coilovers?

Got a set on my Koni Adjustables
All good in the hood so far :afro:

And they're meant to be a bit stiffer than the GTi ones I think!

VR6 top mounts are the stiffest available i believe. Stiffer than the G60's.

yeah the vr6 maye a little stiffer but they are slightly differnt in design and g60s are exactly the same looking as the standard so it would be staight forward for a novice. I paid £60 for my front two g60s. you'll need either an impact driver or air tool to get the nuts off though as doing it by hand can take the beeswax try and borrow one if you can.

oh yeah and and if they squeak when you have fitted then get some wd-40 between the two springs and the centre spring plate. for somereason that was the cause of an anoying squeak on mine?

yeah mine swqueak too, i replaced both rear mounts and it stopped some squeaking but still there. i'l try the wd 40 in between both plates.

This might help im going to put these on in a couple of weeks (The guide is for the mk3 but vertually the same). ive got a list of bits you need some where as ive just bought them from vw. Ive got the mk3 vr6 top mounts off ebay the links on the above link.

OK Ive just bought 2 of each of 23, 24, 28 came to about £16. This is with the mk3 vr6 top mounts if you go for the g60 ones i think you need some aditional bits.  :smiley:

problem with using MK3 GTI/VR6 mounts is you need a specific top spring mount for them to work properly, so if the coilover kit is designed for a MK2 they may not fit.

they are designed for the mk3 so should be fine with these topmonts. Ive just ordered my coilovers today  :smiley:. Hopefully get round to fitting them weekend if they arrive before then
