Well after a year or R32 ownership, 4 months of GT TDI ownership I needed the character back again so picking up my GTI tomorrow morning. I am very excited to say the least and look forward to ownership especially to see how it compares to the MK5 R32. If any of you have tips for how to keep the black clean let me know
Heading straight from the dealer tomorrow to get my RNS510 installed again. Not had it since selling the GT TDI and I miss it! Ill be so glad to have xenon lights again too. Going from having them on the R to not on the TDI was a nightmare. Its amazing the difference they make.
Ill post some pics as soon as I can.

Sounds v nice, I pick mine up in a couple of weeks too!
How you having the RNS510 fitted, at the dealer? Did you buy it aftermarket from the dealer!?
-
you got any mods planned?? remap
-
Excellent mate. I love my GTI to bits.
Remember to do all the checks - I was so overwhelmed by the car, I didn't notice one alloy was slightly different shade to the others (it's not particularly noticeable and I plan to do something to do them in future). Also missed the fact that I was missing a dustcap remover but strangely not the bottle opener!

Yes I have already been in touch with my remap contact and its being done ASAP   . (EDIT: just had a call back - being done on Tuesday!)
As for the RNS - i bought it off ebay - had no problems at all with it. It is being fitted professionally at my local in-car entertainment dealer along with my parrott CK3100. I have used them for years so trust them to work with my cars.
Thanks for the tips stealth. She just had 2 alloys replaced under warranty. I belive they had the Monza II worming issue. I used to work for VW so I have had a good look at her and all seems very well. Work really dragging today!!! :undecided:

Ahh, there's nothing like picking up a new car
Pics required

Strangely enough, I managed to stay calm (for two weeks!) up until a friend picked me up to go to the dealers. Then on the journey there, my heart started palpitating and the instant I saw a black Golf with a red stripe on the forecourt, I knew it was my car despite there being two other black GTIs there!
Take a camera with you - that's the one thing I wish I had done because, although it was raining, I took some pics with my K800i and it doesn't do it justice.
-
....It's a wonderful day when you pick up your new GTI - May the joy continue as it has done with me.
I even got someone to take a pic of my handover : -

In your excitement and eagerness to hit the road, don't forget to go through some basic checks..refer to the sticky for new car collection for some guidance..whooops see someone suggested that earlier...still worth reiterating the point.
I would check the tyres, see if there the same on all four corners, or at least back to front and they match the car....there was a sorry tale of a guy on here who got a used low miler but his tyres were ridiculously worn...think he got it sorted though (can't recall clearly).
You'll want a full tool kit too (check the boot)...should there be a wee bottle opener in the centre console? I got one on ebay for a couple of quid, so no hassles if you don't...also they are not exactly critical.
I luurve collecting a new car, one of the great joys in life...(how sad am I eh?) except via Glasgow Audi, they made it the most painful and disturbing retail experience of my life...however thats a completely other tale of sales lies and ineptitude (and non VW related too). Good Luck mate, enjoy and post some pics when you get a chance.
-
OK will do, thanks for the advice everyone. When I test drove the car the bottle opener was there! Took me until my 4th MK5 Golf to get a bottle opener!!!

Im so happy with it it, had a good long drive in her yesterday. At the minute she still has 95 in her so I assume its best I let it run dry and use super from now on. Best we get here in NI is RON 97. Keyser, I am getting the remap done by auto tune ballymena. Guy there called Steve. They are fantastic. Had my R32 and GT TDI remapped by them. I believe you had your DV go after you had yours remapped. Did you get it replaced with a stock one again? Thanks for the info on the carworks guys, im in Lisburn so Ill nip up there.
I am wondering now should I get the uprated forge DV valve as I am getting my car remapped on Tuesday. Can any of you tell me the best place to buy it online, I have no idea what to expect to pay. Ill get the guys keyser got to fit it too saying they did a good job for him.
Im impressed by the note the GTI makes under accelleration when you hear it from outside, nice!! I cant wait to head out again today, gonna just go out for a 'drive'. Its raining here today in NI so that should be fun. Very happy to be back in a Golf with character again and people notice who know when they see the badge!!!! had a few heads turn yesterday
- I have 1 spare VW bottle opener as well, if anyone doesnt have one PM me your address and Ill send it your way!
-
Nice car! Looks really well.
My DV had a torn diaphragm (hence the loss in power) so had it replaced with the more up to date one. The part number is 06f 145 710 g and I just went in and ordered it at VW boucher road. The letter g is important as this is the most up to date one. I contemplated the forge dv but it costs £150 (just google forge). The standard one costs £28. My car is 2005 so the DV was the older version and not as reliable. The one you have in your car may be the new version.
You'll notice a world of difference after the remap.
-
Thanks!
Maybe if mine is the new DV version (maybe someone can confirm this - my car is Jan 06?) I just get the remap done and see how I get on.
-
....As VW have revised the stock DV so many times it's difficult to know by the build date. Failures are very random, mostly on remapped cars running more boost, but some on standard cars too. I know someone who has had 3 failures! It's a weak link imo but if it ain't broke don't mend it - Though I did!
The Ed30 and Audi S3 has the DV located at the front - As vRstu has done.
-
You got it in the best colour ;)
-
Agreed - it looks gorgeous, especially in black!!
-
Thanks all!!! Really loving the black now myself!!
-
Black looks lovely, although it is a pain to keep looking clean
-
Very nice!! Let us know how you get on with the remap, would be interested myself and good to know there is somewhere in NI who can tune the GTI :)
-
glad you got it in the BEST colour.

Yeah the guys at autotune Ballymena are great, cant speak highly enough of them. Especially good that if you want that they can come to your house and remap it on your driveway using their laptop based system. They have a full rolling road setup on their site too.
-
looks very smart i cant wait to get mine now
-
nice GTI ,cant wait to get mine

Also missed the fact that I was missing a dustcap remover but strangely not the bottle opener!
Whas that then ???

I don't remember the Golf having one but on some VW's didn't you get one clipped into the petrol cap area???

The little tool to remove the black rubber stuff that goes over the bolts holding each alloy in place. There's a tool (in the manual it's the first thing you use to take the wheel off after applying the jack) - looks like a wire with a curled/looped end.

Shhhhsh - they are fitted to Vauhalls, not Dubs - well I haven't seen 'em on a dub!

Yebut - that is for the wheel bolt caps, which are not called dustcaps. Dustcaps is a term generally used to refer to the tyre valve caps, be they on bicycles, cars, or fookin gert trucks.
Actually, does one end of the black plastic screwdriver handle remove the dustcaps, with the other end being used as a spinner for the losened wheel bolts? :undecided:
-
Correction - they are alloy wheel bolt caps, not dustcaps.
