Well it seems my luck hasnt lasted long. My golf seems to be making a clunking noise when going round a bend and then when you get straight it seems to make a weiring noise that then goes away.
Mate said to check bottom arms which i have done and cant find any movement/play in them. Also when i spin the wheel back and forth with not much travel there seems to be abit of play.
Any idea's on what this could be?
-
after having a good route around it seems that i need to replace the passenger side Driveshaft as there is play coming from it when rotating the disc. So only had the car 2 weeks and already something has gone wrong, brings back memories of the calibra.
-
Wheel bearing? if it is it will be loud when you turn?
*cough* someone say vauxhall!! *cough*

Might have a Polish person hiding in there!!

it seems like the wheel is vibrating when going round a bend and in a straight line.

yeh wheels are fine mate as it drove back from north wales ok which is a 2 hour 30 min drive. Only started the other day when i moved forward it a queue and heard a clunk and felt it in the car, then got worse and now you can feel it when driving.
-

i had one snap the other month - drove ok in a straight line but clunked when turning
-
i hav a clonkin noise on full lock right hand down only  its has come bk had it lst year when it went in 4 mot my drive shaft was loss so just check that.
where about in north wales where u i live there.

I live in Lincolnshire mate, bought the car from North Wales near Greenfield. Which side did your driveshaft come lose at? was it gearbox end or hub end?
Also can someone tell me the size of the NUT that holds the shaft in the HUB, is it a 30mm?

gearbox side m8

not speaking from a vw point of view as i know bugger all about vw's but i had a similar thing happen on one of my hondas.
I think your right with the driveshaft, mine turned out to be the bearings, failing that it could be a cv joint
-
was it the allen key bolts that came lose at the gearbox side?
The car used to have audi wheels and bonnet Bra. Only bought it 2 weeks ago mate

car stands me at £2350 mate, which is a real bargin.
The fault on my car seems to be the N/S CV joint, has alot of play in it. Is this a common fault with Golf's?

been struggling to get the bottom arm seperated from the suspension leg, do you have to remove the bottom ball joint completley or can you just prise the bottom arm down to get the ball joint out?
-
Can someone help me with the above question, need to get me car back on the road as i miss driving it

think the bottom ball joint is held on with 3 bolts mate
-
yeh thats right, but do i need to undo these to get the bottom arm off the suspension leg to remove the drive shaft or can the arm be levered down?
-
found out yesterday that the problem was not CV joint or driveshaft. The fault seems to be down to the Coilover losing its gas and therefore not returning to its proper position after going over a bump. This then is causing the wheels to vibrate. So rather than a cheap fix of £40 its costing me £200+ for a full coilover kit.
-
It seems i dont have any luck, after fitting the new coilovers on the front the noise and wheel vibration went away, but after about 3 weeks it has come back and is doing the same thing again. Going to me mates garage this morning to have a look at it, damper still seems to be doing its job, but can see the wheel vibrating/juddering when moving back and forth slowly. Im hoping we can find the fault and finally put a end to the problem. If not may look at selling the car, which i dont really want to do.

I don't see the point in doing that....... Your next car could be worse!! I'm sure your mate will get to the bottom of it, & it will be all smiles again. I know it's depressing, ATM (I'm getting frustrated with mine, too!), but when she's running sweet again, you'll be glad you kept her! :afro:

well went to the garage on saturday and couldnt pin point the fault or any idea of what is causing it. Going to another mates this week to get a second opinion. He seems to think that the new suspension will be ok as it is still rebounding fine and there is no sign's off leakage. He thinks maybe the bottom arm or ball joint could be the cause. Still very strange why it would cause the wheel to vibrate/judder.
Oh well back to the drawing board, will be putting my plans to sort the bodywork, detail the engine and get a different remap on hold until i get the problem sorted. Oh and Tax the end of the month, best make sure i get that.

thanks, but the tyres are fine make and it wouldnt cause the wheel to vibrate when moving slowly. Ideally im gonna try get me mate to take a video of it on his phone so i can show whats happening.

just read a post about Poly dog mount bushes. With my car having poly dog mount bush could this be causing vibration down the driveshaft to the wheel?

Yeah could well do.....

finally seemed to have found the problem. With the car being lowered and the bottom arm not being at its standard angle, then this has caused stress on the bottom arm bushes and caused 1 to split slightly.
So think im going to get a set of powerflex bottom arm bushes to strenghen the front end up. Has anyone else fitted these?
