I just wondered if it was a common problem

Did you do a scan for fault codes??

Mines on too while we're on the subject, BUT mine also occasionally makes a werid grinding noise - best way I can describe it is that the first time It happened I thought a platic bottle or something had caught under the front of my car. After the noise the light goes of for about 10 minutes or so, then comes back on again - any ideas on that one? I wondered if the caliper might be fuct?

How do i scan for fault codes?? and how many sensors are there??

Sticky caliper or a knackered handbrake cable (if its on the back?).....mine has done this in the past and a quick freeing of the caliper and cable sorted it.......
and you can get a fault code reader connected up to your car and this will scan the abs ecu for any faults stored...or see if someone on here can connect you to vag-com

One sensor on each wheel, they measure the wheel so then it knows when you are skidding and can kick in.
If the sensor is faulty, the ECU brings up the light and turns of the abs.

LOL oh great i better buy 4 then lol,

F*ck me theres some quality information on this site.
Although my girlfiends mk3 is pritty mint it has a couple of niggly probs, this being one (ABS light). Im going to check all the sensor's as described in the guide but the handbreak does seem a little rough so im wondering if its a little seized. If it is will it be the actual rear calipers (iv just had to re-build the rear calipers on my clio 172 ), or the routing of the cable thats the common problem?

Indeed, if everyone does a guide as they find a problem and fix it, before you know it. Its a diamond site!!!

Will more than likely be the calipers at fault mate
