Title: Exhaust repair putty stuff... any good?
Post by: tim145tim on 28 August 2008, 10:48
Hi guys, my exhaust is blowing ever so slightly on the back box...

its not in the main body, its just along one of the seems of the box... a slight crack...

As I dont want to replace it for a month or 2, I was going to use some exhaust repair putty on it...

anyone used this? does it, will it work?
how long for? any advice? thanks

Yeah I've used the HAlfords own brand repair paste and it does the job fine. Once you've put it on let the car idel for a bit to warm the exhuast then turn it off and leave it over night. Job's a gooden!

Nick

Whenever I've used it, I've found it to be sh!t!  For the amount of effort and money to repair it, I'd be tempted to wait for it to get bad, then replace than mess about.  I'm sure there must be a cheap standard back box kicking about on here/fleabay?

Its more for fitting to joints than trying to patch holes.  we always use it on exhaust joints and it does a great job.  Not really made for patching holes in backboxes.

Weld it.......as thats your best bet and some exhaust places do it for a couple of quid (mine does and most of my midlle box and middle pipe has had work!!)

Theres two kinds...

One is for assembly,

One is for permenant repair.

O well I'll just try and see if it works, it only costs £3, and the cracks small

the holts repair putty in a tin is wicked stuff, did the job for me with my old standard back box which went on the seam of the box and on the join of the pipe, held it for 6 month till i replaced it
