basically the car had bit of a hiccup last week, new fuel pump is required, better money spent replacing entire car.
£1500ISH!! to spend. I want something around 98-00, mild engine size i.e. nothing silly like 4+litres, mod cons, etc.
What would you get?
Edit: anyone suggesting a mk3 can get out.
-
mk 3.
-
how about...

has the mod cons, and is still a bit VAG?
-
a bit older, but saab 9000s tend to be fully loaded at that price
-
^im thinking going down the seat, more modern route..
have been looking at the above and the leons etc..
also the older civics... :lipsrsealed:
mid engine - 1.4?
lupo? oh that would be good to see...
Dinx

tiny bit over budget... but hell yeah!
-
Ooohhh...I likes your style mr tom..
and you like Audi's Alex...
Dinx
-
buy it now for £1900 too!
thats the cheapest i've seen one
-
£1900? well worth it.
Otherwise, I'd look at Corrados(maybe not in your year range but still  ), non-GTI MK4 Golf/Estate (unless you can find a GTI for that price range!), anything Audi you can lay your hands on for that price too :afro:
You might want to check out some Seat's and Skoda's they're all VW at heart
I know you said no MK3's but I'd get a VR6 Highline MK3 just for the engine and comfort.
Or even a Honda, they're reliable! I don't think I've known a Honda to breakdown.
-
passat - get a lot of motor for ya bucks
-
or you could just get a BORA
-
or you could just get a BORA
who would want a boring Bora?
Oh wait that'd be Vauxboi Rob innit.
-
What about a leggy 2.8 V6 A4??
-
Jeez Slick, ever heard of this: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?action=search;advanced;search=
Piss.
I takes it.

-
Right short list so far is....
Pissrat - 2.3 V5
Toledo - 2.3 V5
A3 - 1.8T
then i started getting sleepy so my mind was considering other things...
BMW 528i
Alfa 156 2.5 V6
Saab 9-5 2.3T (03 plate mind)
Alfa GTV
then i was waking up again cos it was feeding time and i needed to cook
Pissrat - 2.8 V6 synchro - difficult to come across a good one.
Bora - 2.3 V5
Golf Mk4 2.3 V5
Pissrat 1.8T
Edit: ah my beloved search function... if only it searched out an ideal car for me.
-
loads of choice there Slick - dartboard time
-
IIRC the 1.8T's should be cheapest to run and service, and give you the best mullah courtesy of a re-map.

I was actually looking at them, then realised how much of a ballache it would be to run.

Go fo a 1.8T golf mk4 over a 2.3 V5 IMO - thirsty
-
Aye, but for that reason there are scarce few of them sitting around my price range on autotrader.
Although book values for both engines are only a few mpgs different. (1.8T is 35mpg / 2.3 V5 is 32mpg - combined cycle)
Edit: cheers chuff, although i am going to be stuck with the lovely mazda pool car for I reckon two weeks before i can become more financially astute towards buying.
-
How are they mid engine like?
Dinx
-
alright mate - as n when - i can do west london in an hour too if required
and for all some will now cringe - have you looked at the octavia ?????
-
How are they mid engine like?
Dinx
They arn't dipsh!t, they are front engined.
Mild dear, mild, and those are relatively mild considering some stupid engine sizes you can pick up for similar cash. Oh and it is going to be a cruiser / daily drive & commute.
Chuff: aye although am struggling to come to terms with one.
-
Chuff: aye although am struggling to come to terms with one.

Well (unsurprisingly) I'd vote for the Passat 2.8 Syncro.
Those out there (and there's a steady trickle through Fleabay) have generally been looked after. There's the odd one that hasn't, but you can walk away from those pretty easy. I found a 60k one, straight as a die about 18 months ago. In the end my boss bought it and loves it to pieces. The transmission's basically Audi 100 Quattro, so you can't go far wrong and f*ck me do they go and stick to the road like sh*t to a blanket!
Even the 4Mo TDI Passats are coming down bloody fast now. We have one and it's a total gem and stays around 40MPG, even though we treat it mean.
-
plenty of 'raddos around for that money
-
I'm with Topher, a Corrado sounds a good choice for the money.
-
or you could just get a BORA
who would want a boring Bora?
Oh wait that'd be Vauxboi Rob innit.
innit? i only speak the Queens old boy
-
Pissrat - 2.8 V6 syncro
Nice car as said, I had one. No Sports car mind, heavy and juicy too. great engine though and 4wd system.
If I was going for another I'd avoid autos though as the box is soooo lazy.
Eibach springs livened it up a treat too, and together with 18"s really woke up the steering feel.
-
The 2.3 V5 engine comes in two flavours though, 150bhp or 170bhp (on some Toledo's and Boras mainly).
Also if you're looking at the V6 Audi A4's, worth noting that the 2.4 has 165bhp, more than the 2.6 which has 150, but the 2.8 is 193bhp.
Spec wise you'd get more for your money on a Seat Toledo than a Bora, but then it's not VW, though at least it's not a Skoda.
-
mmm looking at the raddos and there are only 2.016v around, which imo just isn't worth it in a rado, VR or G at the least.
Been looking at book specs for the V5 and indeed variations are mostly on boras, some golfs too.
The search continues.

innit? i only speak the Queens old boy
Oh I do say, I'm so sorry old chap, does this mean one is getting a Rolls now?
-
indeed
