Title: Finally got bits in
Post by: AlanD on 24 August 2008, 11:23
Well, after fannying about I finally got around to getting my audio installed. 2 little 8'' Punch subs with a Crossfire amp. All sounds very nice now :)

Still need to tidy up the wires a bit but you get the jist. Car is also a complete state so please excuse, if anyone wants to come to Croydon and clean her im open to offers :)

Looks good Alan.

Sorting out a nice sub is one of the many mods from the (rapidly) growing list I have for my MK5.

Have you done anything with the door speakers?

Yeah, been meaning to get it sorted for ages now and finally got glad I got it done now. Iv not touched the speakers yet as the seem they seem to be able to cope pretty well so far. Iv been running my Alpine HU for about a month now and the sound improvement over the standard HU was amazing, its now brilliant with the addition of to subs.

Have you started yours yet? When you come to replace the HU send me a PM, it can get very complicated as VW use the CANBUS system and I might be able to save you a bit of time.

You know what I didn't even think of that, looks good on yours and I could have done with having a little more room for luggage. Ah well, its in now, how hard was it to fit them arch enclosures?

Remember, iv not always been a MKVer so I do know the rest of the forum exists ;)

It took about 3 days on and off to do the enclosure. When you are doing the fibreglass bits you are waiting more than anything else for the bits to dry. There is quite a bit of fiddling about to do, but the end result is well worth it to have the boot back in use.

Yes... I know most of the MKV guys just visit the MKV section, but you still need to post in the MKV section too

yea, get a stealth type box, looks better and you have a boot!

Isn't the box too small for the subs, doubt they'll be moving enough air in a small ish box???

Looking good though!

... Ah, my bad, there only 8 inch, ignore the not enough air comment!

lol I was wondering what you was on about.

G (used to be Alpine head on here till he got banned lol) sorted out all my setup on the headunit at Brands the other week, he knows a bit or two about this sort of stuff and has the same HU as me. Also adjusted the gain etc on the amp. Its amazing how a few little changes on the headunit and amp make such a massive diffrent to the sound, sounds soooo much better. All the cables tidied away now so im a happy bunny. Managed to take a PC with a 22'' monitor all the way to oxford in one peice aswell so still got plenty of room :)

Guys at work say it all looks a bit boy racery, I'll admit its not the best looking install but Its pretty tidy and I dont really care what it looks like, its how it sounds :)
