Hi,
has anyone had the cambelt changed on their mk5 GTI yet ?. Reading the motoring section of the Telegraph today, a reader mentioned his dealer had recommended it be changed at the 40k service.....i've 42k miles on mine ( 3 1/2 years old) and haven't even thought about getting that belt changed yet...

I was told it was due at 60k
Only extra at 40k is if you have DSG as that needs changing then.

Do you mean the dsg oil change service?
-
Yep.
Yep, 40k is a big service and DSG oil change where appropriate then 60k is cambelt.

Think camshafts are chain driven.

Think camshafts are chain driven.
Only on the latest engine which I dont think is in the UK Golf just yet (or maybe just filtering through now)
-
Negs right only on the latest 2.0Tfsi
-
I was also told that the cambelt should be changed at 40k service. Most other cars I've owned have been around the 60k mark?
-
I have had my 40k and nothing was mentioned to me by the dealer - which is why I then enquired and was told 60k.
-
....I think everyone will find that the Handbook says 60k for the cambelt. I'm nudging 52k.
-
How much roughly is the 40k Service? I have DSG....

....I don't know - Mine was included in the full maintenance package I bought (tyres too!). If no-one else here knows, your VW dealer can easily tell you. More meaningful to phone them anyway - It'll be them you'll be going to.

To quote the hand book
At 60k then every 20k the cam belt is checked.
At 120k cam belt is replaced. This is for the 2.0l, 110 kw FSI and 147 kw TFSI
This is for the AXX engine
To me this is very high mileage to leave it, so I will change mine at the next service which will be at 75K.
