Title: Tuning steps for my gti
Post by: stevo_20v_turno on 22 August 2008, 12:21
Hey guys,
Im new to the site after only recently aquiring my first vee dub. i got myself an oak green 3door 150bhp gti. at present the only mods are a revo remap with dyno pwer of 195bhp and 250 lbsft. what should be my next course of mods to get more power? i was thinking a de-cat followed by a frount mount i/c...if i decide to go with this, will the car need re-mapping or will the boost its running now which i believe to be one bar not be affected by a de-cat and fmic? i dont want the car boost spiking or running lean! also what boost gauge would be recommended as it doesn't have one at present!
Cheers,
Stephen.

What year is your golf or what engine code is it?  As for FMIC some say thay dont do much at all and the standard side one is fine.
You only really need to remap again if you get bigger turbo.

Milltek full system (inc high flow cat) shoud see an extra 15-20 bhp

The standard cat is VERY restrictive and high flow will also free up mid range torque :afro:

its an 01 model and was a 150bhp car, milltek system sounds good,im in ireland abd i think i know of a supplier! as for the dv im not 100% sure, the car has obvious compressor surge noise and a bit of a whoosh on gear changes underload,if that makes a difference?? :undecided: its prob the standard one ill have to check!!

You wont need to remap again mate they can alter your current chip the only thing you may want to do later if you want more power is fit a programmable ECU.

well, got the diagnostic done on the car! turns out its an 02 sensor thats the problem and apparently my "wastegate by-pass valve is sticking" is that my diverter valve??

You made a good choice in getting a 2001 model mate. Cars from 2001 onwards had better ECU's which are easy to work with and you will get more power.

I got a 2000 plate deliberately. Cheaper tax pre 2001 and still got the best engine code if I only want a remap.
