is it though cos my engine code has never been fitted to a mk 3 :undecided:
-
wow.. an old engine... i should have researched this a bit more before buying one!
Didn't they change them around though in about 2000? Something about a PD something or other? Could have that completely wrong, usually do knowing me!
So, is the MK4 scene as much fun as the MK1? Not that i ever did anything... other than a mixed rolling road day! Guess I can't wave at as many people :(

mk4's are great cars!! apart from the door switch probs, the plastic wondow regulator clips breaking, the rear washers jamming and bursting pipes off in your headling, maf probs, coil packs, noisey starter motors , etc etc... we could go on... lol... but then that list is short compared with any other brand of car of the same age!! lol....
most probs will have been rectified by now, if not look on here and see the cheaper ways to deal with em!!

Touch wood, I've not had a problem yet but it's like any dedicated forum, there will be a list of things that can go wrong as long as your arm. Overall, I can't fault the mk4......so far...
-
so what year is your car? mine is a 2001 on a Y
-
hello and welcome
-
Certainly a friendly bunch the Mk 4 lot :nerd:
'Damage' as he is now known - not sure why - is 2000 on an X reg. I'm the third owner and theres a teeeeeny (for a VW) 78K on the clock.
First on the list is a full service as it keeps bleeping at me on start up (not used to that from a MK1...), then need a couple of tyres, oh, and mats. I need car mats!
Anyone know if it needs a cambelt change? It had one at 50K, and i'm not sure if it needs one now. I read somewhere it used to be every 40K, but then in the back of my head i had there was an engine change at some point that meant it only needed doing every 60K?
Hmmmm...

Yeah we are friendly lot :afro: Cambelt is 4 years or 40K .
Get the water pump done at the same time as if it go's wrong you will have to re do the cam belt.
-
You could do the service yourself and reset the clock :
