Title: Wiring looms... ughh
Post by: Rmachines on 21 August 2008, 18:08
Bloody nightmare!  Trying to pulll out all of the wiring looms for the 16v.  Getting it out is very tricky!  getting it in will be almost impossible i think

Anyway..  Does the servo have to come out to get to where the loom enters the fusebox area?  And which way does it come out?   Do i have to unplug it from the fuse box and pull the plugs through the bulkhead or will it all fit through the other way,   if possible i would like to keep as much in the fuse box as possible.

I have to change all of the dash loom as well,  its a right pain!    And is there a trick to getting the damn plugs out of the back of the fuse box, doesnt seem to make any diffrence if i push the tab in and pull, they just will NOT release.   I dont wanna go and pull all of the wires out of the plug

ive done this many times, it can be done with the servo on, just unbolt the master cylinder and move it a few inches to the side, feed a few connectors through at a time, then go into the car and pull them through, do this a few times and they all will come through, as for the back of the fusebox, are u sure u have fully pulled out the plastc bar what runs through the middle of the fusebox,

on my gti, i swapped my 8v to the 16v, i only needed to change the engine managment side of the fusebox, all the dash wires and loom stayed in.

i can change the whole loom on the engine to the fusebox from disconnecting the old and installing the new loom in under a hour, so its not to envolved really.
