Just wanted to say hi in the mk5 section.
Until recently I was driving a Celica T Sport which was lightly modified. Loved it but practicality and comfort were lacking. A few weeks ago I started looking at changing, options were Civic Type-R, Focus ST or Golf GTI. After enjoying the high revving lift (VTEC) on the Celica I fancied a turbo motor this time so that ruled the Civic out. The 2.5T in the Focus is great but the interior feels like it was made by fisher price and it has a fugly rear. After driving the GTI I knew it was the one for me so after some searching I found a well cared for 2006 Steel Grey example. It started life as a demonstrator so has a few nice extras:
DSG (with paddle shift) - Still getting used to this, most of my driving so far has been in traffic so my left foot is thanking me! Need a good run on some B roads to test it properly
Xenons - Fantastic!
18" Monzas - Wouldn't be without them although I like the Pescaras on the ED30! The Monzas look brand new so might have been replaced under warranty?
PDC - Nice extra but the Golf ain't that difficult to park, maybe useful when the wife is driving
Multi-function steering wheel + Highline - Nice extra but the live MPG display scares me.
Armrest - Great!
Factory phone kit - I don't like the phone cradle which is installed on the dash (it doesn't fit my phone but I only need bluetooth) but I was told if its removed bluetooth won't work  The seller gave me a list of compatible cradles but they seem to be for older handsets.
Already I'm considering colour coding the plastic bits but I'll give it a month or so to see if they grow on me. I seen a Steel Grey R32 at the weekend and it looked great with the bits colour coded. The dealer serviced it before I took delivery (21k miles) but they have gone for distance/time schedule which means its due again in 1 year but I don't mind as it means she'll get looked at again before the warranty runs out.

Mike, I see you are from Cape Town. I was there on honeymoon in April this year and really enjoyed it, drove the garden route over to Port Elizabeth and done the Bloukrans Bungy jump en route
-
Hey
Im glad you enjoyed it
I had the chance to do teh jump but got cold feet at the last minute and said my best friend could rather do it :embarassed:
The garden route is lovely. We did that drive in the GTi last year and even took it on a few dirt roads.
Where did you stay in Cape Town?

We stayed in Bantry Bay at a place called the O On Kloof.. really nice. Lots of speed cameras on the garden route, I was expecting to get some tickets from the rental company but I guess when they seen the speed I was doing in a Yaris they must have assumed it was a false reading ;)
-
HA HA!
Alan I am a pansy but hey... I climbed the Sydney Bridge last year so cant be that bad
Speed cameras are very common on the garden route. But then again our traffic department is pretty slow so you would only have got the fine after leaving making it dirt cheap because you guys are using a different currency.
Our Yaris's are funky. My mate has one. They move for such small cars.
Bantry Bay is awesome.

Couple of questions on the GTI..
Is the in-dash 6-disc changer standard spec?
Should it play MP3 CD's? I tried 3 but all were rejected with the message "CD ROM".
Do I have headlight washers with the Xenons? I got a mate to have a look when I activated the windscreen washer but nothing poped out. The plastic panel below the headlights has 2 sections so I assume there are washers in there somethere.

In dash I belive was an option (not too sure as mine is under the arm rest ? ? ) Depending on what radio you have it either will or wont play the MP3s (mine didnt which is why I changed my headunit) from the sounds of it, yours is the one that doesn't. Having washers is a legal requirement with Xenons so yes you will have them, they will pop out and wash when you have your lights turned ON and you pull the windscreen washer stalk. Becareful tho, not only does it spray your lights but it will also do half your bonnet aswell which is not good after you have just cleaned it as it makes a mess. I actually try and avoid using the headlamp washers for that reason, I mean how dirty can your lights get ? ?
Hope this helps.

Cheers Alan, maybe the headlights weren't on when I tested.
I might look in to an iPod adaptor for the headunit although from what I have read on here the VW one is to be avoided.

A Yaris ended up on top of my motorcycling friend last year
However it was so light, it only broke his arm!
Daft bugger has got himself another bike!

Looking good, nice spec too. My (standard) headunit says mp3 by the cd loading slot, so im guessing if your doesnt then it wont play them. If it does, then it may be a problem with the cd burn.

If you have the highline display then 100% the Dension, otherwise all the kit's (dension, dice, connects2, etc) are all pretty similar.
