Title: BBS LM's
Post by: Manu_R32 on 20 August 2008, 03:27
Hello guys...I have the chance of getting a set of BBS LM alloys but would just like to ensure they are the right size before i were to make the purchase. They are 19"x8.5 5x100 or 5x112 not sure what all these figures mean which is why im posting here...thanks again!

My apologies to all, i didnt use the search button properly but then figured out how to use it.

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=72621.0

Basically i should be after 19 x 8.5 with a PCD OF 5X112.

Before any one asks. Yes they are replicas, £600 for a set of four alloys without tyres. Not too fussed if they are replicas or not as most people wont be able to tell the difference unless they are really close to the car or examine the alloy. Will keep u guys posted

Make sure you apply wheel protector to them before you fit them and re-apply everytime you clean them. The lacquer isn't great on the reps so needs protecting from brake dust and grime. If you do that they will stay tip top.

People can't tell the difference unless they are up close but as they are LM's you'll find people will try to lick them

Mine are...

19x8
PCD 5x112
ET 50

If your looking at 19x8.5 I think you might need a different offset.. ??

Nice one Manu!!! Post an update on the OC as well bud!

Also, check out my blog as I've left a present for you on page 15 ;-)

Ps. Make sure the offset is close to 50!

Look forward to comments!

Guys....Thanks for the comments but there has been abit of a let down...the seller claims he has no more sets with ET45 5x112 and claims he doesnt know when he will be getting them. He currently has 5x112 or 5x100 with ET35. Would this make much difference and would the car still be alright with that "ET"? He claims i can get away with it if i were to stretch the tyre etc but dont want to take the risk of damaging the actual car. Any comments??

....Would you really want to potentially risk your safety by stretching a tyre just because you think it looks cool?

Even if you have an accident which is beyond any question someone else's fault and your car is checked and found to have inappropriate sized tyres, you are potentially suddenly in very deep sh!t, especially if there is an injury in the incident.

Your tyres are your only point of contact with the road and each tyre's contact area is only the size of a CD case.

Joe - I sometimes wonder about your mindset.

I refuse to risk my life, others lifes and ofcourse my car over a stretched tyre! Agree with joe they do look cool but cant be good with the way i drive. Guess il just need to wait till they are available in a higher ET or just save up for some originals

Sorry topher but I think it's important that the original poster has info which doesn't result in the risk of his safety. I'll say no more on the subject
Title: Re: BBS LM's
Post by: The Wheel Man on 21 August 2008, 13:05
Im not sure what the guy means by telling you to stretch the tyre.  You car will probably need a 235/35/19 no matter what the offset, if he was suggesting that you put a 225/35/19 tyre on then that will make no difference to the wheels fitting or not.

From some quick measurements the 8.5" ET35 will sit 20mm further out than Neg's 8.0" ET50 and there is no way that there is 20mm of room on Neg's car.  For the 8.5 to sit just like Neg's then you will need an ET of 55 (this would make the .5" extra width on the inside)

Basicaly, wait till you have the proper wheels!

Indeed, think they are about £3grand...could say they affordable but just sooo many other things id prefare to spend 3 grand on! Miltek, Haldex, GruppeM intake, etc....any one know where i can buy a Gruppe M actually? I do have a fair bit saved

....But some might say that I am crazy to have spent what I have on mods, or particularly a carbonfibre bonnet

If you can save or have the money available it doesn't matter imo. One man's £1,000 is another's £10,000 etc.

A fraction of that money would be better spent on advanced driver training in my opinion but that's just my opinion - Each to their own.

....I think she probably means that you'll certainly learn something about driving fast cars safely and you'll be safe with them on the track day. But what I was on about was more of a full day one-to-one in your own car on public roads learning roadcraft. Every little bit helps but in my opinion driving safely (but still being able to make fast progress when appropriate) on public roads is the most important. The ideal to do both road and track training but not to drive on the road as if it was a track.

We never stop learning and the fact that I've been driving more than 40 years means diddlysquat.

Hurdy, those rims you posted are also available on eBay! They are £499 and come in 18 x 8.5. To be fair i wanted 19"'s but considering the ones i want werent available in the size i was after....although these do look very tempting....

The fittment on the spoiler is perfect.  It just mounts to the factory spoiler, with no fitment issues what so ever.  Here's only a few pics that I had, hopefully this helps:

Genuine BBS LM`s are only available in a ET32mm, not suitable for the MK5 Golf.

You need a an offset of ET50mm for the MK5.

I'm really happy that I opted to pay more and get the matte black.  Nothing against the glossy look, but the matte looks sweet to me.

Thank you for the info and pics bud, much appreciated. It looks great in that close up picture. I was slightly concerned it may look “stuck on” and not very OEM but I think that confirms otherwise. It looks great in matte on your car (I have matte rear valance and front splitter on my R32) but I think I'd go for fibreglass and have it sprayed blue to match the body.

I hope I can get the Morr VS8’s. They are having problems with the machined finish at the moment which is delaying things. I’ve proved the demand is there, just need Morr to give the green light on the engineering for a VW fitment. I’m confident a group buy post will be going up soon.

They are differnt. I'm looking at the Morr VS8's but I saw that pic on Vortex a couple of montha ago and thought they looked good.

Here's my shortlist after months of looking. Unfortunatly most are really quite expensive:

Unordered:

DPE S-20
Forgeline MD3S
Fikse Chroma 10
Morr VS8
HRE M40
Advan RS
BBS RS-GT
Enkreuz H10R
Work VSXX
