The timing belt tensioner had seized, which is why the belt snapped. Nick (mechanic) is waiting for a new belt and tensioner, then he will see what other damage there is.

hope yours is better than my poor 20v speedy!!! ive wiped out a shate load of valves marked all the pistons and generally made a mess!! gonna sting me around ?400 and thats doin it me self, hate to think of what it would cost at a main dealer! ?1000's i reckon
