Afternoon all, i've currently got the 1.8 20v NON-turbo GTI and i think it's time to upgrade to the turbo version. I've seen two for sale, one is...
52 Reg 150bhp for £5500
and the other is
53 Reg 180bhp for £6500
Both identical in every other way, same colour, spec list and even same mileage (around 60k).
My question is which should i buy? I'm thinking if i buy the 150bhp and save myself a grand i could easily (and relatively cheaply) remap it to over 180bhp and still have some change left to blow on some other stuff. Are there any other advantages of buying the 180bhp version?
-
Hmm I'd go for the 1k cheaper one and mod
-
i didnt realise they did the 150bhp ones on a 52 plate :undecided: i thought at that age that would also be a 180bhp
-
I think only the anni's came with 180bhp? All the turbo GTI's are 150bhp otherwise, I oculd be wrong. The 6 speed gearbox ones are 180bhp anyway.
Your much much better off getting the one for a grand less, then getting R-Tech to re-map the engine to close to 200bhp. Better value for money :)

2002 on all mk4 turbos were 180bhp - k03s turbo
-
Hmmm, in that case it's a no brainer, i'll go for the cheaper option. I'll go and have a look, I'm presuming all the 180's came with the six speed box?
Cheers for the replies.

How many gears?
Have you looked on boot sticker for the kW figure. If it's over 110kW you've got 180BHP.

You didn't buy it from an internet dealer did you?
Is it an import?
What year is it on the chassis No?
-
No its not an inport, 110kw on the sticker in the boot and 5 gears. What part is the year?? Just letters and numbers to me

I'm the second owner but its got receipt for the original purchase from VW. Did'nt think all the 53 plate GTI's were 180's though.

That's why you have to go by the build date. Your car was possibly a cancelled order or something then, & didn't get sold/registered until Sept 03>.
