i need more power, so im thinking of a turbo! all the usual questions what turbo to use what needs doing to the engine etc etc and will i benefit
-
I've heard a T2 turbo and manifold from a mk3 does the trick. you'll need to lower the compression if you're running high boost or what to get a large increase in power from it.
Not sure what you'll have to do about the injection system though.
-
Hey Dizzie according to your signature it looks like you've had the conversion done on your 8v to 20v Turbo? I'm really interested on how it went, the results, good points, bad points etc..... :)
-
it's off on next tuesday to be done. I'll see if they don't mind taking pics when I give them the car. the longest 2 weeks ever begin soon :(
sorry to hijack the tread. back to turboing the 8v...
-
hey dizzie,
so is yours a 1.8t or not?
-
I wouldn't bother putting a turbo on an 8v, put a g60 or 1.8T lump in instead.
G60 lump should be fairly straightfoward, and not too expensive. 1.8T is better and more tunable, but will cost a lot more.
-
so if i go for a g60 lump is it a straightforward swap? 1.8t is too common
-
im doing a g60 swap( when i get the money) ;)
and they are complicated and far from straight forward!
ive been quoted ?500 to do the conversion by a vw engineer that i know,
but all the professionals are quoting 5 to 7k!!!
but g60 is the conversion to do, 1.8ts are cool tho! :D
-
who cares if an engine is common. its not a hat ffs. ;D
its common because its blatantly the best engine for tuning.
-
G60 shouldn't be too bad in a digifant, a k-jet would be a pain in the arse.
Of course no engine conversion is that straightforward, but G60 in digifant should be a lot easier than 1.8T conversion.
It all comes down to how much cash you have at the end of the day.
-
but all the professionals are quoting 5 to 7k!!!
5 to 7k! :o :o you might as well buy an original one..............
-
Don't go to places like C&R or TSR for engines.
Just an example :-
C&R quote 2500 bar for a 9A short block (2.0L)
VW want 1200 bar for the same thing.
Enough said :D
-
wtf? how do they get away with that? its not like it is a special one off or something! do you get extras or is it just the block? extras means lightened balanced etc
-
Not sure if there are any extras.
I know the vw block includes new sump and oil pump.
If you have an crap 9A block to exchange then you can get the recon 9A block from VW for 700 bar.
-
mate c+r etc are blatantly on the take!
-
You aint wrong there mate! :D
-
mate c+r etc are blatantly on the take!
of course. but so many people here swear by companies that do "awesome" jobs, and dont realise that the VAG parts counter can be good value some of the time.
-
i use nothing but vag parts counter, even when its not good value it is if you know what i mean. i dont think there ignition leads are htat great tho, but maybe i was unlucky
-
yeh there were loads of extras, high lift cams/polished head/skimmed blah blah blah.
but im not going there for 5-7k, no way,
i think when i get the money im just goin to buy a real g60 from germany :D
-
a 1.8t conversion and a g60 conversion are goin to cost about the same to do for a digi. i got qoutes for both,
if you want to do the job properly then its gonna cost5-7k,
unless you know a vw engineer than can do stuff like put a v5 engine in a jetta :o :o :o,
like i do!!!!!!!!! :D
