Definitely keep the small bumpers, and deck it......
I'd also lay the rear wiper flat, and replace the front and side indicators with smoked ones............

Nice, dont waste time/money on things like big bumpers, wing mirrors, grills etc.

Id Just deck it, get some smoked front indicators and side repeaters, lay the wiper flat, s/s exhaust and some rims (ronal turbos oh yes)

No, it just has the rainbow trim.

So it looks like small bumper and lower is the way forward.

The passenger door paint has started to crack and looks rough so i think a respray might be in order.

Nice toy.
I would stick with small bumpers. For some reason if you stick big bumpers on anything with a number plate older than G, it just looks wrong (to me at least) and doesn't look quite the same as a genuine post-90 big bumper model.
Besides which, there are fewer original pre-89/90 small bumper GTIs left. So if you can keep it original, do it.

That said, I would want to lower it with some nice rims, (nothing larger than 15inch though) and a tasteful exhaust.

I was thinking of getting the borbet (A) rims 16"

As for the exhaust, i dont really know what to go for. i dont want any thing to loud.

keep the smalls but get rid of the lower spoiler i hate them they look well too chuncky, get the thinner one and then deck it on some 15s. borbets suit that colour in my opinion

if it were mine...
i'd lower it about 80mm, and stick some refurbed p-slots or teardrops on it.
