Getting my GTI's metallic black bonnet resprayed next week...thanks to a couple of new nasty stone ships...has anyone else got their bonnet resprayed after 3 years in this colour ?...did it match ok ?

How much is it costing to get your bonnet resprayed ???. i wanna do mine as i have a couple of few chips aswell. :sad:

how big are these chips ?, i think i would rather live with the chip than run the risk of getting a crappy spray job on the whole thing

Yes - done recently after nearly 2 years. VW dealer bodyshop. Perfect colour match and finish :wink:
Just a pity they scratched and dinked the car elsewhere :angry:

A local paint shop to me were looking at £250, they guarantee a total match. A brave thing to do with Tornado red...however they did say that they would need to blend into the wings as well. :rolleyes: Although someone on here recommended them to me previously and from talking to the guys they seem enthusiasts and are paint geeks (if you follow).
All that for a bloody ding right on the middle of the bonnet! and it was ALL the fault of a stupid lazy builder who left rubble on my new roof extension whilst promising to come back to clean it....he never and subsequently a bit of rubble blew off the roof causing the damage...I am right pissed off. He is now denying any knowledge or responsibility for it... :angry: :angry:

i have about a dozen chips or so :angry:, previous keeper must of liked sitting on the back bumpers of other cars.i think it has too many chips to do shaun.i know a good paintshop that have done a couple of respray jobs in the past and are excellent. ill get the front bumper done at the same time.

ive had the bonnet resprayed, cleaned the car a week later and found ahuge chip on the leading edge just above the vw badge not happy.i wouldnt recommend chips away i had them over to refurb 2 alloys and spray in 2 massive chips on the bonnet of my bmw he did an excellent job, its just a shame he did an excellent job of heating the paint up so much a bubble appered of course he denide it even though id cleaned the car in the morning so would have seen it,i just sent the wife to bmws bodyshop and they did a proper job under warrenty :grin:

I bought my Tornado Red car from a VW dealer over the phone + pics, but without physically eye balling it. I asked sales guy if the paint work was damaged or had been repaired. They said 'no'. Well on collection, there were numerous small stone chips touched up by previous owner and one larger chip to the primer right in the centre of bonnet. The sales guy said it must have just happened..oh yeah and the scuffed wheels that were supposed to be immaculate??
Up shot was they offered me £50 of fuel to walk away with the car as it was... Nope I'm not stupid, I insisted they sort it.. I'd have been happy with the stone chip touched up, but in the end due to dealer incompetence, they must have spent £650 sorting everything incl transporting car to and from my home to their premises (round trip of 540mls).
Bonnet was compeltely re-sprayed (perfect match), wheels refurbed, mirror cover replaced plus I got £125 compensation...

I had a mate who puchased a VW Golf Plus from Verve in Glasgow, despite assurances from the spotty sales scroat that the car was "perfect" the car had absolutely no paint damage and was all original.
He made the trip and actually picked the car and accepted it, however surprise surprise the car was wet....my mate is no fool and very experienced however some prevailing circumstances let him have his guard down on this occasion.
He took the car home, dried if off, then found that there was a respray on the back panel and the door didnt fit right! he also noted a poor repair on the front. The stealership refused saying that he accepted the car.....lol....what happened next will go down in the annals of history.
Dumped the car in the forecourt with a letter of rejection. He heard nothing for a couple of days, getting angrier and angrier he tracked down the personal home details of the MD can called him. He found a pic of him posing in an online interview, got his name and the town he was from,...after some e-detective work called him at home :evil:
The MD was gobsmacked by his forthright approach, and probably sh!t scared at being hassled on his door step...within the hour, yep the HOUR,.... his funds were refunded AND he got compensation. I would loved to have seen the look on the spotty sales scroats face when his manager told him!

i got a quote to have Phylis's bonnet resprayed, they wanted to do wings to match bonnet and front bumper/valance
...........guess how much they wanted.................................£500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, i thought, your having a giraffe!, and said"ok thanx very much
and walked away.(this was a paint shop and not my local normal vw dealer)
Perhaps maybe get chips away person or someone to do touchup pen and cut backlike 182_blue suggested. Maybe cheaper???
or maybe just drive into a wall and do insurance job and pay excess!!, maybe cheaper lol

well I got my bonnet resprayed (metallic black)...have to say I'm impressed...didnt need to blend into the wings either...and I'm very fussy....£180 ....now got a nice blemish free bonnet to catch the new stones ;-)

Had a front wing resprayed on my last Diamond Black GTi - perfect match apart from a very slight difference in the pearlescent flake pattern. which you could'nt see until the sum came out.

I had a front wing repaired and sprayed on my steel grey ED30, when it was only 3 months old, the match was spot-on, then 2 months later I was waxing it again and noticed runs in the clear-coat, I'm positive they weren't there intially, I would have noticed due to my OCD :laugh:. Took it back to repairer and he reckons that sometimes paints and clear-cote settle over time due to the difference in drying times. He could have been talking b@ll@x but he polished the imperfections out and it was spot-on again :smiley:. Think it was 180 quid

I have a fair amount of tiny chips on the golf. It looks as if someone's been flicking white paint on it when it's zymol'd. I usually add a coat of black wax to the bonnet and it looks like new again :cool:

Why not get a decent touch up paint and give that a try ?

I just picked my car up from the painters last night after having the bumper,bonnet and wings redone due to stone chipping.
Match is bang on ( red spice metallic)even under yellow street lighting its spot on.
Don't see any problem with a car thats newish providing the rest of the paintwork has been looked after. The painter (if he's any good)won't have any issues matching it at all.

Hi Colb666, I am in Glasgow, can you recommend your paint shop? I need a bonnet respray and probably will have to get the wings blended in. I am tornado red, which I keep hearing is notoriously difficult to match, so could do with some good recommendations.
