OK Guys
I'm trying to keep GTI's cool in this part of the world, but my mission is always obstructed by fellow members of the multicultural UAE VW Club who attempt varying amounts of butchery on their cars to wildly different effect.
As a well respected audience, with good taste, please give your honest feedback as to whether you'd do this to your car......?

If i remember rightly you have to cut your arches off for that mod
It's not for me, but neither are those brown short's and funny shoes. Hope there not your's phil.
-
Hell no!
-
Nah, looks sh!t. That isn't a GTi though, is it?
-
I think it looks ok maybe with bigger sills though and colourcoded. quite aggresive. A mini W12!!!
-
Exactly - I tried explaining to him that is just looks like a 1.0 litre body kitted Fiesta dressed up to look like an XR2i, but he just doesn't get it!
-
Is it me or does it make it look like a Corsa
Might look better colour coded?
-
^^ as above, i thought it was a corsa !
-
+1 Looks like a Corsa with a tiny driver.
-

thats the first thing i thought
-
apparently it's a 2.5 litre with turbo, kicking out 400bhp....
still looks chav to me.....
-
defo not for me looks like a landrover with those arches!
-
id like to see it colour coded..
bumper strips and front bumper bits too...
i reserve comment till then...
tbh, modding/adding bits is always an 'each to their own' game anyways... cant really knock someone for having their own input...
-
....Would I do it? - NO!!
A friend is about to have some carbonfibre flared wings fitted to his VW Racing prepared road&track car, but that's to better manage his highly modded suspension setup - They won't look like add-ons!
-
It makes it look like it has huuuuuge arches and is riding on stilts. Not my cup of tea
-
It looks sh1t but the idea does hark back to the older GTIs which all had plastic arches...
-
If he put some wider sills on and colour coded the whole lot candy white then it could look pretty savage. It looks like he has side skirts of some kind on the car but they are the same black as the wide arches, so you can't really see them
-
please give your honest feedback as to whether you'd do this to your car......?
I'd rather ram my genitals into a wasps nest.
-
Not a chance. I have seen some widebody GTi's that look great but that looks like a Halfords special :lipsrsealed:
-
Didnt think VAG did a 2.5 Tubby petrol ? ?
-
They don't! It must be one of the 2.5 Rabbit's from the state's and he's turb'd it! Bet it goes
-
Yeah that be an American Rabbit..... Buggers always get the bigger varieties :undecided:
-
Not even if you bought me a GTI and did the mod for me and made my favourite dinner
-
Ive just been reading Sharpie's build thread i think those arche's used to be Sharpie's

Personaly no, but it his car and he has had a reason for it like most of us here have chosen to modify for one reason or another.I like his alloys though.
What i am not keen on is the Mk5 snoberry thats doing the rounds not insu on this post but on others. Some seem to seek approval from the forum before adding things to their cars and when they do they sometimes get savaged. :lipsrsealed:This site is fast becoming the best Uk MK5 site on the go and i would not like to see it as conformist group.

Well said Keith. Im not the only one who has noticed alot of negativity around this place of late. As you say modding is very subjective and one mans bugatti is another mans Skoda (no offence Stu!). Yes we all have opinions, but if they are negative think twice as the individual you are being negative about has probably spent alot of time and effort on their car.

Think positive

Carry on guys

While everyone is feeling the love i personally love this site, there is not that much flaming going on if any
Wait until someone puts a pirelli interior into a ED30

   Subtle as ever TC!!

....I think that we are all just being honest in expressing our opinions. Take the thread I started showing the CF fog vents - There's quite a variety of opinions about it and everyone is cool about that. Just so happens that most of us don't like the wheel arch style in this thread.

Robin, I think Keith was eluding to forum members mods as apposed to random Yank's questionable taste mods.
I also agree with TC that I do love this place and even though there can be the odd frosty confrontation, I wouldn't go anywhere else! Im not adverse to a bit of banter/healthy debate myself  Gets the blood racing!!

Who, TC?
-
At the risk of being shot down, i actually quite like the flared 'dtm' style wheel arch, have done on all Mk's of Golf. BUT, for me they would need to be done very well indeed, colour coded and properly blended with the rest of the arch. These items look like he has gone to the local diy shop, bought some black pvc guttering and an angle grinder................... Each to their own of course
-
i like it :)

i think the the flaired arches may well come from a very well respected american tuner of old fifthteen52
still wouldn't do it to mine though, i did have a MK2 XR2 that looked a bit like that :embarassed:

I get where the lad is coming from but it looks more appropriate, imo, when part of the body and on a track GTI : -

If you put your hand over the bonnet on that pic RR poste'd it and just look at the side view it look's like some kind of beach buggy, barely recognisable as a golf.
