Title: Another Newbie
Post by: Synchronize on 13 August 2008, 20:03
Well sort of!

Hi peeps, used to post on the mark 3 forum as the old mode of transport was a mk3 GTi 16V, but got fed up of driving a boat around and decided to upgrade to:

08 3 Door DSG, Monza II's, Centre Armrest, RCD500 - was already built so no 2 month waiting list!!!

Well chuffed as it's my first ever brand new car, but haven't had a decent chance to polish her up due to the sh!te weather!

Going back to the garage next wednesday due to some squeeky rattles behind the dash, and also the dash mounted air vent. Oh well.

Anyway, nice to meet you all...........

Mate congrats on your purchase.

You got the best colour too!

Wanted a prebuilt one but couldn't find one with the right comb of specs and in the end went for a used one and found an ED30.

Hope you get a kick outta owning as much as I do. My heart palpitates everytime I think about my car.

Thanks again guys!

Nice bit of friendly banter going on

Has anybody else experienced the rattling that I explained in my first post? Only occurs on rough road surfaces mind.
Mate congrats on your purchase.

Yeah, my heart palpitates especially when I kickdown  - my girlfriend is beginning to think I'm going to run away with the car

Both the MK5 GTI's I have owned have rattled somewhere at some stage. There is a common issue behind the heater vents on the centre console above the radio which if im not mistaken there was a thread on here some time back covering it, and a fix. I think Hurdy has done this?
The other rattle comes from the light cluster/sunglasses holder in the roof, again there was a thread covering this. Try the seach function if you fancy having a go yourself rather than the 'not so carefull' dealer!!

Good luck

Lol was driving home just now and some muppet in a corsa is in the outside lane of a two-lane bit of road that later merges into a single lane as part of a single carriageway after an S-bend. I undertook the car whilst on the S-bend and was well ahead of him by the time the lanes merged! Your heart just starts thumping with the exhilaration.

I get the feeling that I'm never gonna tire of this car.

I also get the feeling it should come with a health warning and a requirement for all potential buyers to undergo a full medical exam prior to purchasing the car.

i have Mk5 GTi's for nearly 2 years now, and still now get excited just seeing it parked on my driveway, thinking of excuses not to either go out in it or to get it a wash!! .

glad to see im not the only one. Im normally bored and want to try something else, but just cant love to hate this one right now. I hope the Mk6 is a flop so will keep telling myself there Nowt else for the money on the road which ticks as many boxes.

Welcome ... great choice of car   and you've found a great forum here

The MkV GTI is the best car I've ever owned,  now on my second and I still love driving it more and more each day !

Both mine have rattled too BTW,  but only on certain surfaces.

Only joking, although now I think about it yellow sounds good ...)

Welcome from me too.

I concur, you have the best colour combo without a doubt :smug:

Please put aside lots of spare time for cleaning/polishing/waxing but don't forget the driving

Enjoy the car - it's superb, even with minor faults. You would be well advised to develop a working relationship with your local VW dealer or independent just to keep you sane. Very good dealers seem to be in the minority, as judged from my own experience and the posts of forum members here. If you find a good 'un, keep it and use it

Was in London when I joined this site about 3 years ago, just haven't updated my details. Live in sunny Woking now!

Ps was Sutton (not really London now is it??!!) so not too far away from croydon.....
