Today I had the CK3000 Evolution and Multican fitted to my Golf with the microphone located in the interior light cluster (where the factory fitted microphone is located if fitted). I can hear other people fine (it's REALLY loud actually!) but they can't hear me because it's too muffled and they can't hear what I say . If I lean right up to the light cluster it gets better, but still not brilliant and I obviously can't do that whilst driving.
Anybody else got the microphone fitted in the same location and had similar problems? Or no problems at all? I'm thinking of getting it moved ("thinking" = "going to" because it is unusable in it's current state) to the top of the A-Pillar or somewhere near the interior light cluster but outside it rather than inside.
Any feedback greatly appreciated, either from techies in the know or other Mk 5 drivers

I have mine fitted just behind the rear view mirror and have never had any problems with people hearing me. The unit on the whole has been very disappointing.
Sometimes it doesnt connect to the phone.
Radio cuts in, inbetween conversations.
Screen flickers,
just recently realised that the person who fitted it disconnected my ipod connection too.
Start getting an echo when I recieve a text during a conversation.
I was told to download the latest (nokia) phone software and this will remedy it... did that but it still hasnt worked! He is back out to fix his cockup later this week. Will let you know how it goes... but I have not been very impressed with the parrot so far.. If anything i sound like a kn0b saying everything twice so people can decode what I am saying.

I had the LS-3200 Parrot kit in my last GTI and had the mic on the A-Pillar, it seamed OK but did get a few comments on road noise sometimes (plus it had to be replaced under warranty twice ).
I now have the integrated VAG bluetooth kit from VrStu (with the mic in light cluster) in my ED30 and have had no issues with people being able to hear me.
One thought, it might be the Parrot mic's are designed to be directional as they come with the movable bracket? :undecided:

Sorry to hear of your problems GolfGirl, I would suggest trying the mic at the top of the A pillar trim.
I have spoken to quite a few people who are disappointed with the Parrot kits and I have fitted them before and don't rate them myself. I hope you got it cheap.

When i used to fit hands free kits a really cool place and out of the way is either on top or below the steering rack. The black plastic where the wheel fits to.
I found they were good there as you face that way while driving. And also on newer cars you have air bags on the A Pillar to mess about with.

I too bought a Parrot but recently sold it because of poor reports (didn't fit it). The dealer I bought it from did recommend fitting the mic at the top of the A pillar as the performance is impaired in the recommended factory position. I've just bought a OEM Bluetooth from Stu and will be fitting that soon. I'm going to try the mic in the factory position but will move it to either behind the mirror or top of A pillar if I have to.
Hope you get it sorted.

Very possibly this weekend I should think, it'll be with you before 1PM tomorrow.

That’s where I’ve fitted the mic from my Pioneer bluetooth headunit. The mic sits on top of the steering column cover and was a doddle to route the cable from the back of the stereo and under the dash, this was one of the suggested locations from the Pioneer installation manual.
Unfortunately I can't comment on the sound quality as my Sony Ericsson doesn't like pairing with the headunit!! Due an upgrade now so gonna go for a Nokia.

Thanks for the help, it's given me a few ideas and I didn't think of the steering column.
Was thinking of the OEM bluetooth myself and would have preferred it but want the phone button to be used and not the star button (I know I'm picky )

Mee too, but I'm mellowing and can live with this until someone thinks of a software/coding fix (getting older I think it's usually called )

I'm hoping that by the time I change the car VW will have sorted themselves out and got bluetooth as standard as Skoda & Seat have!

Are we saying the Parrott kit is not the best now then? I am about to get a kit for my car (bluetooth) and was thinking about this one..
In fact I need 2 kits - Mk4 and Mk5 Golfs, any other recommendations....?
-
Don't shoot me down but the ones that Halfords do are good.

I'm not saying that at all, although other people have said that it's not the best. If you research further though some people have said how good it is. You get good & bad reports about almost everything in life.
What I'm saying is that the microphone is not suited to being positioned INSIDE the interior light cluster because the speaker grilles muffle the sound of my voice to my caller. I'm just about to go back to get it repositioned and I'll report my findings later (and make sure I'm happy with it before I leave this time ).
I don't intend on using it much anyway and would rather miss a call and then pull over and call them back, but would like to have it just in case.

I initially had problems with my LS-3200 kit in my old GTI and it was replaced under warranty, it's now fitted in my GF's Polo and works fine.
One thing I found with Parrot kit's it worth investing in the good quality Autoleads SOT type harness (rather than the cheaper Quadlock to ISO ones) as I got interference on the cheaper types. (Only an issue on the Mk5).
Alternatively this kit is meant to be very good - http://www.bury.com/en/hands-free-car-kits/system-bt-bluetooth-systems/cc-9060/cc-9060.html

I've heard good things about the Bury kit too Steve.
I've had a Bury kit, albeit some time ago and it was excellent quality.
-
My Mic is also at the top of the drivers side A pillar  Works well, but isn't a parrot
-
I've had a parrot 3100 kit for 2 years, no probs at all.
my mic is mounted by the rear view mirror (was told could affect the a pillar airbags if mounted there), angled at the drivers seat (obviously)
-
Well I'm back
I've had the microphone repositioned on the A-Pillar and it's loads better. I've phoned three different people and they can all hear me loud and clear  Did think about having it by the interior light cluster (outside though, not inside!) just in case I have a passenger that wants to join in the conversation but decided on the top of the A-Pillar as it's more out of the way and less visible to people peering through the window.
As for the usability of it....so far so good. I've not really had a play around with it yet though and I'm back home now with no mobile signal so I'll have to wait till I go out again. At least I know it works anyway
Thanks to Rob the foreman from Listers VW in Evesham and Steve from Mobile Audio in Worcester for their time

That's great news Golfgirl
VRStu, whats the deal with the OEM bluetooth kit? and can it be fitted to my 08 ED30? I have Highline.........
I have a Parrot kit that I had fitted in my last GTI but wasn't overly impressed so haven't got round to having it re-fitted in the ED30.
Any advice welcomed

The OEM BT stuff works fine on the ED30, done a few myself and there are a couple of people here that have fitted them too.
Drop me a PM if you want more info.

Greenouse, I am one of Stu's ED30 bluetooth customers (he fitted it for me) and can highly recommend the kit over the Parrot. The control via MFSW and display via the highline is very good.
