Title: Flange Anyone?!

The seal between the head and the Water outlet, is it an O ring or a gasket.....and is it known as a Head front water Flange? I have Mrk2 8V Gti and have slight water leak but not from head or rocker...coming from outlet thing.... also my engine revs drop and rise when I dip the clutch before levelling off....any ideas?

sometimes the flange thing cracks and needs replacing. about ?5 from VW with the 'O' ring mate

Hi Toddy.
Check the plastic flange carefully as these are prone to cracking.

thanks guys.

also it feels like my gearbox mounts are loose as i think it rocks a bit when i gear change, does this happen. This is my first VW. the first of many I hope.

as for the rev problem, you've probably got air leaks.

Have a look at the rubber seal ontop of the rocker cover. it sits between the air breather and the rocker cover. they split and break.
