Title: Closing windows with key fob + VagCom mod?
Post by: TagnuT on 11 August 2008, 15:09
Just come back off from a couple of weeks away. It was nice and hot and the sky was blue.  (Not like the UK at the moment.)

While away we hired a Seat Altea. The was proceedure for closing the windows, with the key fob was not the same.

On the Golf:-
Press key fob to lock. Press again and windows go up. Now, if you let go of the button with the windows half way up they stop.

On the Altea:-
Press key fob to lock. Press again and windows go up. If you let go of the button with the windows carry on closing all the way to the top. Handy if you want to press the lock and walk away.

The question is, can you change this over in VagCom?

Welcome back.  Where's my stick of rock?

You poor sod, hope you are recovering!

You do NOT want to press the blip twice.  It disables the deadlocks on Golfs.

You can close the Golf (and all VAG enabled car) windows by pressing and holding the FIRST blip.  Also if you have a sunroof which is also open, the windows will close first, and then the roof.  :nerd:

On the Altea:-
Press key fob to lock. Press again and windows go up. If you let go of the button with the windows carry on closing all the way to the top. Handy if you want to press the lock and walk away.

Handy - but still disabled the deadlocks.

The question is, can you change this over in VagCom?

Dunno, but I'd have thought so, as they might share the same Convenience Module.

Sorry TT the rocks in the post, and its a big one.

Maybe I only pressed it once and held the button down same as I do on the Golf. Just seemed a handy feature press and walk away.

What do deadlocks do?
And what does disabling them do?

They are like the deadbolt on your front door at home.

If you disable them and someone breaks a window they can open the door by the handle from the inside, with the deadlocks on the inside handle won't work.

Yup, spot on.  The deadbolt and the "Yale" lock are quite good comparisons.

Audi and Volkswagen actually work quite different in this respect, and it's a ball ache for me to remember which is which.

But basically, the only time you should really disable the deadlocks is if you leave someone in the car whilst you need to lock it - say if you have Granny, or SWMBO - and need to lock it after you've filled up.
