Title: Restrictor in air box
Post by: dragongreen16v on 03 May 2004, 11:00
On my 16v, if you open the air box you'll see a long conical shaped thing on the intake. It can easilly un-clip....so I did. I took it for a test drive and didn't know how it would affect it, I noticed more torque from 80-110! Why is it there? It just seems to restrict air if anything.

Congratulations!!
Did a bit of research on the net, and it's one of the only free mods that will give you 5 more horses. Apparently, it acts as a silencer. Sound OK without.

If you drill the box, isn't that defeating the objective of having a filter? Where would I drill it and what size hole?

drill the box on the front and wing side, not the engine side! you drill below the level of the filter, in the bit that had the resonator tube, that way more air can get to the filter. i drilled holes 1 inch across
