Got me hottuning coilies on today and slammed it as much as i dare at the mo , looks swwwweeeet!
only thing is driving it home from me mate's garage the front end seems to shake or shudder can feel it through the steering wheel like something is loose or rubbing ? it only does it whilst accelerating take your foot off the gas and it goes away ! even just tickling the throttle i can feel it at any rev ?? it's a strange one , all the nuts and bolts were done up to the correct torque according to haynes , it feels like the wheel's are loose !! could it be tracking or camber issues? never come accross anything like this before and iv lowered loads a cars!
ideas please gentlemen!
-
Defo will be the tracking mate, take it for a full set up asap camber, toe, alignment!
Will be as good as new, mine went really bad after droppin it on its arse on coillies
-
cheer's mate im gonna take every one advise change top mounts and get a full allignment done , hopefully should cure it??
-
If your top mounts (or the bearings) are gone that wont help..... and then get the camber & tracking done, Like mine will be next week but mines way out as i replaced a load of bushes too
-
yer i will do , its just i think it is something more serious aswell it feels like the wheels are gonna fall off wen ever you acellerate !! its really quite bad and scary !
still gonna take all the advise and eliminate every thing one by one ?
-
keep up posted with the rusults....
-
a quick update (ish!) the top mounts are ordered went for vr6 ones from dealers , been round local garages to get trackin/camber done and they saying that the cant do it as its loo low ! and 1 said that they wont do it and even if they did i wouldn't be right??? 1 garage said that theres a performance place in the next town with a machine that may be able to do it but its about £150 ?? sounds a bit steep!!!!
any body got any ideas? beginning to think i may have to raise it up on the front  not that i want to !
any body on here from around suffolk/essex know of any were i could get this done?

I enquired at braiswick tyres in colchester mate about tracking/camber when i was in there last and they said that as long as the laser can get under the car its not a problem. If you take the front splitter off, how much gap is there then? might be worth a try i suppose?
-
As said take the splitter off and they wont have a problem with it because its gonna give u a couple more inches to play with.
Got mine done with everything adjusted for £85 and mines pretty low
-
yet taking the splitter off is no problem , all the places i went to today said the reason they cant do it is becuase they cant get the lazers to clamp on top of the wheel as theres no clearence between wheel and arch ? i take it that the computerised way of doing it doesnt need the the lazers attached to the wheels ? and the only clearence issue is driving it onto the machine right? i cant find anywere near me that does this kind of testing any one know of any national garage chains that do it?
im not to far from colchester so may have to check out the place mentioned above!
hope this works , im on my mobile at work!
-
fitted new vr front top mounts and the shaking is not as bad now although its still there a bit , i think if i can get it all aligned it should be ok ! just having difficulty finding some were that does the computerised testing !!!
anyone know of anywere near ipswich?

These guys might be worth a look?

warrior motorsport fitted my powerflow exhaust, and my car is going there monday to have coilovers n mounts put on, also sorting out the steering.
They are top quality guys.
MIKESTERS APPROVAL i reckon!!
They had some hottuning coilovers on a mk1 cab last time i was there. Not bad i reckon.
-
so your keeping the mk 3 then mike??
and regarding the suspension woes, i thinks its just down to the tracking etc now and the fact you are running the thing super low , the cheeper coilovers (as good as they are) can be a bit harsh on mega low settings
-
didn't know wariors were still about ? i'll give them a look , think i know one of the guys there ?
-
ive noticed that the drivers side wheel has side to side movement in it wen jacked up , i cant pin point whats wrong with it tho every thing seems to move its although there/s play in the track rod like play in the steering but it ony seems to be one side ? i dont think its a bush but cant be sure , what i have noticed it that it looks like the car has had damage to the the front / drivers side as it has a different wing and bonnet thats been sprayed , i hope nothing is damaged undernieth it all looks ok !
any know what the play (side side movement about 3/4mm ) could be , i dont think its wheel bearing as it would move up and down aswel ?and as i say the whole lot hub arms and anti roll seem to movr the same
-
Are you dead sure that the bolts are done up on the shocks... and are you sure the problem has only just started??
-
I would have a look at the wheel bearing as they are weak on the mk3!! and if its loose change the hub too as these are what fails and causing rapid bearing failure
-
Have you tried A14 Performance Tyres in Bury St Edmunds....???.....their exhaust department are Powerflow fitters and sorted me out last week on the middle section of my Valver. While i was waiting they were doing laser tracking on a slammed MK2 (which i might add had side exit tailpipes which looked the dogs dangleys) could be worth a call.
-
fitted my raceland/hottuning coilies last week and there bob on for me, thought they would be bouncey on a vr6 but there fine tbh.... as for you shakey woes, if you got play laft to right on yas wheel (not up and down as youve said it would be wheel bearing)... , peel back your boot on your steering rack, some times the pressed cup that screws into the rack with the ball in it comes loose, will cause loose steering and similar symptoms to that of a knacked track rod end... but its the other end!! might not be this but worth a look!! as ive had it on other mk2 and mk3 golfs and it was always this
-
cheers knight rider il see if i can have a look , not sure how to get to it easily tho? its sounds like this could be the prob as its like theres play in the rack when i move the wheel left and right the track rod also moves as it it should so its not the ball joint it might well be the other end !!
-
had a quick look at the inner track rod end today , well tried too cant really see how to get to that easy?? anyone??
had another thought tho maybe engine mounts ?? as it seems to only do it under acceleration and not when coasting ???
probably a combination of a few things i recon i dont think it's because of me slamming it , i recon its a fault thats been there for a while but as iv put the new shocks on its highlighted it and as its so low its more sensitive so the problem is magnified!
what you recon??
-
Could be mate, has your camber and toe been set up correctly too
