anyone carried out this conversion tried searching and google but cant find any info for the mark 4. was wondering whether a mark 3 16v head would fit the block or a 20v head from the 1.8 n/a.
-
I would think the mk3 16V would fit? :undecided: Really doubt the 20v will tho.
Never heard of anyone doing it TBH :undecided:

i havent heard either but thought it would be a good way of boosting the power to 150bhp

doesnt seem hard to do does it!!!! :afro:
-
no not hard just got to change a few extra bits and pieces too, although they say it isnt that powerful without the turbo because of low compression
-
Tubby is the way forward. Its been said many times, there really isnt any point throwing money at the old 2.0 engine to gain performance.

not really throwing money at it, i would just have to buy a head and gasket and belt set and fit it myself.

an afternoon's work for you mate
-
exactly matey, be a bit different to the normal 1.8 turbos in my opinion, will drive differently as well, may be crap but there is only one way to find out

i've had a fair bit of practice - luckily my missus isn't that clued up on cars though i'm slowly educating her

unfortunatley as i do a lot of work on cars outside the house she wouldnt fall for it, plus she would start thinking i'm a useles mechanic if it took me a day to change a battery

what about the ECU and all the wiring. there is probably is a reason why it's not really caught on.
-
wouldnt have thought i needed it as it's only a camshaft sensor on the wiring front that may be different

whatr about the information being sent through the loom?
a 2.0l 8v ECU surly can't be much cop on a 16v head...
-
thats what i mean it's only the cam sensor and with a DOHC cam sensor pick up on one cam so all it will do the same the ecu ony acts on info received so in theory it will react to whatever info the sensors are relaying to it, although may cause problem if it's outside expected parameters, im looking into it at the moment to see if it's viable, you could be right as not many people have carried it out but in essence more power and efficiancy can be had by adding more valves per cylinder
