I'm thinking of selling my M-reg 2.0 16v golf GTI but am not sure what it's worth.
One previous owner, genuine 52k, every MOT from new, all bills, stacks of receipts, 5 doors, newly powder coated standard wheels, standard except for full stainless exhaust system and polybushed rear beam, windsor blue metallic and superb condition. Cherished car, always garaged and used for pleasure only - not many like this. Any ideas?

It's a 16v so that's a plus but it's a 5 door so that's a minus. No more than £2K I would have said and that's being optimistic in the current used car climate.

Very Difficult to say, mk3's don't really command any premiums at all like a 2 or 1 would. As Horney said it's a 16v so that will give you a few hundred more over an 8v but no matter what mileage it has it's still 13 years old.
I've seen newer 3 door 16v's up recently for £1995 that haven't sold, in the current climate you'd be lucky to see any more than £1800 i'd say and that's pushing it.
It really depends on how quick you want to sell or if you can reach a real enthusiast....

Thanks for the positive comments, Diamond - they really helped. When's the last time you saw one like this with 52k?
My 96 8V has 56k on it with full vag history and is a 5 door, I paid under £1700 for it in March 08 as a trade sale from a garage which at the time seemed a good price but the market is tough at the moment you should see around £1800 for it.

wotever someone is willin to pay

exactly! my dads friend has an R reg 1.4 mk3 5door in dragon green. Pretty good condition and all that and someone offered £1500 for it
-
£1400....... Its 5 door and a 16v. So you wont get the best market which is boy racers.
-
says a lot dunnit! a mk2 in this cond would fetch at least double!
-
Depends where you advertise it!
On here? You'd be lucky to get £1200 for it with all the MK3 & 5Dr haters!
eBay? Probably less than a grand if you didn't put a reserve on it!
Autotrader? More than you'd get anywhere else I'd imagine, maybe somwhere between £1800-£2K
Basically, to get the best value for money steer clear of the 'enthusiast' forums as you'll not get as much as you would selling privately to 'non-bias' people who will look at the car for what it is, well spec'd, low mileage, clean car rather than the "it's not a MKII innit!" crowd!
Good luck!

people who will look at the car for what it is, well spec'd, low mileage, clean car

Or a Corrado  I've seen a few going for £1k - £2k most of those being the 16V's.

Pointless thread. There is no definate figure. Go do some research.
As has been said in this thread, and deleted, "as much as someone is willing to pay for it".
