Was washing my car the other day and I found loads of bits of what looked like dust that was stuck on the paint and would not wash off
 How would I remove this?
Would I need to clay bar?

Sorry if this is a bit of a n00b question, I do spend ages and ages cleaning my car
Just can't get the rest the bedded in dirt out

 Here's a pic (clicky)-

I know my paint looks horrendous there but its in good nick

 Current method of cleaning is-
 Rinse
 2 bucket method
 Rinse
Quick wash again if I've missed owt
 Dry
 Megs Paint cleaner
TCut any scratches that have appeared
 Turtlewax colour restore
 AG Super Resin Polish
Megs Carnauba wax (which I've now been told is crap  )

Polish and wax applied with a buffer

Anything else I can add to get that extra shine?

you sure it isn't tar? where on your car is it?  are there lots of spots on that photo or is it me?

I have one very small black spot on my front wing which ain't coming off for love nor money... might be the same thing?

you're not t-cutting every time you wash are you?
-
Its on the rear right panel
But there are similar examples elsewhere on the car
Some of that (say about 80%) is general dust as I took the photo a while after I washed it!
 Could well be tar
But a bit high up to be flicked up off the road?

 Nahh definately not!
Only if I notice a new little scratch or something

Is it possible to get this stuff off?
No one really notices, but I know its there
-
you could try a clay bar... see how that goes?

-
				Might do mate!
20 quid though, its quite a lot
 Should be worth it though?

The car's getting pampered this week!
 New tyres
 Possible new stereo
 And clay barring!

Hope it pays me back with an extra 20hp or something

it's one of the most progressive things you can do for getting your car in top form
-
				Ahh cheers pal!
Its like £22 or something at halfords!

 Thats a reputable website yeah?
 How much is shipping?

-
very reputable... other detailing websites are available... clicky http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=64295.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=64295.0) or here http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=80947.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=80947.0)

you could go for the sonus green clay and a QD spray of your choice

you'll have to check shipping prices and comparative products on different sites
-
				Cheers mate :)
If I'm feeling brave I'll give it a go!
Gotta get it shiney for Harewood House next weekend !

As long as I don't end up stripping the paint off my car its all good
-
nah - clay won't do anything of the sort... it's a very safe treatment...

make sure you give it at least a wax afterwards though - that megs wax you have will be alright if you don't have anything else and money is tight
-
				Thats good to hear!
Thinking I'd go through my paint or something ridiculous is what put me off in the first place!
 haha

 Aye!
I bought the stuff on recommendation from a mate
Have some zymol wax at my disposal too
-
				use the zymol

-
				Haha, will do!
Even though its not technically mine
-
for things like tar or plattered paint you can use nail polish remover :smug: it will not effect your top coat and will remove almost anything on the surface, I  had that really thick yellow paint from roads on the side of my car, with a little work say 10 mins it was gone  a cheap easy solution
