Title: HOW TO - do the Engine Speed / Crankshaft sensor on a 8V
Post by: MrDan on 07 August 2008, 14:27
Hi Guys

Iv searched and searched but i cant find what im looking for, i need to replace this sensor, I know its behind the oil filter. Is it as simple as just removing the oil filter and unscrewing the sensor?

Does anyone have a part number?

Cheers!

TO ANSWER MY OWN QUESTION, I DID THIS AND MY CAR NOW RUNS SWEET AS A NUT

I got the part from here

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Murrays-DIRECT-VW-Audi-Parts-Store_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amewaQ3amesstQQtZkm (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Murrays-DIRECT-VW-Audi-Parts-Store_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amewaQ3amesstQQtZkm)

£42 i think

1) Remove Oil Filter

2) Remove the front engine Mount Bolt (verticle one)

3) jack the engine up a bit

4) remove wires from starter motor etc to clear some room

5) Remove the outerbolts top and bottom from the side of the stater motor to release the cable mounts 15mm i think

6) remove those bolts after removing the cable guides (16mm)

7) remove the last engine mount bolt - this is allot shorter and runs through the stater motor

8) navigate the engine mount out

9) locate the sensor and degrease like mad

10) its a 5mm allen key but i ended up using torx to get it out

11) repleace and then reverse the above.

Sorry its not very detailed but gives you a rough idea,

You need to remove the front engine mount bracket and starter motor, then its a 5mm allen bolt.
