I love them. I looked at getting one instead of the MK5 but decided on the MK5 in the end. They look the part aswell. Whats your budget?

I'm willing to spend £8000 on a real decent one. I've heard a lot of bad stories about them though, right now its between the GTi and an Astra GSi, I'd rather go with the golf but don't want to if its going to cause problems.

What sort of stories? The golf like any car has its weak spots, if anything Id have thought the Astra would have more. There is a buying guide in the sticky section which points at things to look out for.

I've heard of ignition coils going, air con leaking or packing in, gearboxes going, there was a few more small things but I can't remember. The only bad thing I've heard about the astra is the turbo going but you can replace it with the stronger VXR one which would solve that problem. I'll have a look in that section and see wha it says, just really wanting to know from people that own one what they think.

The gearbox is pretty much on 1.4s and 1.6s.

Get a Anni!

to be fair on a golf forum, you give people the choice between an astra and a golf it's obvious what the answer will be. ask the same question on an astra forum.

anni's are cool though, but are they really worth that much more than a normal 1.8T? personally i'd get a leon cupra.

We're obviuosly a bit Golf biased on here, but Anni's are so llllllllllllllllllllllllllllluuuuuuuuuuusssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I can't stand Pox-haul Ashtrays, but you pays yer money.........................

I also can't believe that the turbo is the ONLY weakpoint on them!!

Yeah I could do that but the last 2 cars I've had I've spent time & money trying to get them to look right and I'd rather just buy a car I don't have to touch lol.
