Set of for work this morn, it wasnt esp warm but checked the outside temp on the MAF
According to my car it was -40 deg!! Mk2s are one tough car....even starts in artic conditions, didnt miss a beat!
Anyway lol...going to replace the temp sensor as its been playing up for a while now.
I know where it is (i think - passenger side, bumper height and back a bit?)
How much are they? Do VW still make them?
Cheers

There's one for the history books

yeah thats where it is, plug has come off or sensor fell out of hole and eventually fell off. easy fix specially if you have small bumpers, on big bumper its a bit more tricky but still doable.

i work on bmws, and the way they work is:
if theres a short to negative or open circuit = -40
Short to positive = + 40
broken sensors are favorite,
