Title: Headrest embroidery
Post by: Hurdy on 06 August 2008, 13:46
Anyone had the GTI logo embroidered in the headrests over the original embossed logos?

Thinking about having it done in red, but need a decent contact who could do it.

Anyone?

I've been looking at gettin this done for a while but most won't touch it and the one's that will say they will want to replace all of the leather in the process  You can imagine the cost!

MarkyMark has a contact who may be able to do it, just waiting for him to get back from Spain

Thinking about replacing some of the leather interior too anyway

Click on the link below and look at their "Technical surface range" they do a carbon effect leather for cars. Don't know if they do different colours yet though.

Hmmm,

Nothing major though. I fancy doing the door cards, centre armrest, gearstick, headrests and handbrake. Preferably in carbon silver or dark red . If they only do black, then probably not worth it :undecided:

Hello Hurdy

Funny you should bring this up. My mom recently did embroidery for BMW. Also on the headrests etc an it was quite a mission.

The leather has to be taken apart and resown after the embroidery so make sure you get a decent company or local forum member who has high work standards to do it.

Did Dan not get back to you regarding this? I know he can get the Carbon effect leather as ive seen some of his work in this. Check this link to see his work http://www.no-rice.com/forum2/showthread.php?tid=358 he can do pretty much anything you want.
I asked him about embroidering headrests etc which he can get done but the initial set up is £100 so if enough people want it the price will come down drastically.

I know he has been having trouble with his compoooter lately. I sent him a message last week to say you had been trying to get hold of him and what it was concerning. Gotta be worth while, if we get enough people I will ask him again.

I have been looking to get the GTI on my seat's done in stitching for a while. I was pointed toward's MJ interiors' near leed's he is suppose'd to be the dogs danglie's anyway took a drive up there last saturday.
To get it done perfect the GTI has to be stitched on a new piece of leather then that piece fitted centrally. This would entail buying a full grey leather VW hide then stripping my recaro's down  As you can imagine for that little mod it was big £££
In total i wanted the above done plus stitching done on the door card's and steering wheel done, plus new gaiter and hand break leaver leather it came in at well over £800

This MJ chappie said anything like that need's to be done on a machine to get it looking right even taking the leather off the headrest causes probs, when trying to re-stitch back on using the same holes for the stitch he say's it sound's easy but is ab!tch.
Even the door cards look easy to re-stitch but he says they cant be done properly without replacing the leather on the card and the foam behind it.

The CF leather is not cheap, a section 2mtrs sq is £100, my contact can do it but I would suggest you contact him direct, the only issue I see is that he is down in Southampton. I posted out my arm rest to him and got it back within 2 weeks. I am trying to negotiate getting mine and Greenouse's Headrests embroidered so if anyone else wants it doing let me know what your requirements are. As I have cloth seats I will only be wanting the GTI embroidered, but others may want alcantara or CF leather.
Here is a crap pic of my arm rest re-trimmed in Black Alcantara with red stitching.

I suppose it's an 'individual' thing. Speaking for myself, I like my car to be different and not 'conform' with how it 'should' look and without asking him im sure Mark is after a bit of individuality himself??

Yup, I like to personalise my car to my taste with little details, I like to think that what I do is tastefully done.

....Although the embroidery thing isn't something I'd go to all the trouble of doing, who am I to criticise when you consider all the mods I've done which make my car individual.

No worries RR, I dont mind be criticised as long as I know what is being criticised!
As you well know modifying anything from standard is never going to please everyone, it would be a very boring place if we all liked the same things.

Ah I'll name that tune in one.

Delilah

I saw the light on the night that I passed by her window
I saw the flickering shadows of love on her blind
She was my woman
As she deceived me I watched and went out of my mind
My, my, my, delilah
Why, why, why, delilah
I could see that girl was no good for me
But I was lost like a slave that no man could free
At break of day when that man drove away, I was waiting
I cross the street to her house and she opened the door
She stood there laughing
I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more
My, my, my delilah
Why, why, why delilah
So before they come to break down the door
Forgive me delilah I just couldn’t take any more

2007GTI surely if you want to play name that tune it should be in chat nonsense
