Just out of curiosity, has anyone actually tried running their car on vegetable oil without modification?
My lodger is a car dealer and he bought a Pug 206 at the auctions that he has only ever used vegetable oil in........without modification
He did it as an experiment as he bought it so cheap and didn't care if he blew it up.
He's had it for around 4 months now and apart from a longer crank time and a bit of smoke at start up, it runs as normal.
I suspect come the colder weather the starting problems will get worse...........

interesting experiment!
i've not tried it and not likely too as from what i've read the Pump Duse engines don't like the oil
would have thought he'd need to change the fuel filter some time soon and also perhaps run a tank of diesel through every know and again :undecided:

I was looking down this route cause fuel prices sicken me.
I want to try it but dare not risk any damage.
We need more info lol.

i'm surprised it starts veg oil usually needs preheating before it's combustable my mate ran his land rover for years on it with a small preheat tank, didnt seem to damage it but then that was a 1988 defender so a bit more durable and not so electronic.

i get bio diesel from a guy down the road, he refines old veg oil using methinol and caustic soda and i run it in my seat inca van had no problems so far and it is less than half price of diesel

I was looking at some kits a bit back. Around 600 quid. Cant find the site now.
But here is one from the usa.

i spent quite a long time looking into running my TDI 150 on bio and decided against it, mainly due to the fact that the PD engines spray the fuel in a high pressure this means that any "dirt" in the fuel that isn't caught by the filter is going to cut through the injector nozzles, and i didn't want to risk it.
should be fine on the none PD lumps thought

A friend of mine is really into this.
He had a nearly new (at the time) beetle TDI, and ran this on vegtable oil no problem. He did say that you do have to mix with normal diesel, more heavily in winter as the vegtable oil is liable to freezing. The down side being the smell, decrease in performance and longer to start.
I can't verify that this is all true, but take his word for it!
I have not been brave enough to try this in the golf!!!
