Title: JL Audio!!!
Post by: Manu_R32 on 04 August 2008, 00:36
Hello every one...been a while since iv posted on here!! Hope every ones alright and enjoying their summer holiday if they have any! Been working over summer so i have quite abit of money saved. Decided it would be a good idea to treat my car to some goodies. As every one else seems to comment the OEM sound isnt as good as an Aftermarket set up so i decided to go for a new speaker set up. Iv ordered a pair of speakers for tthe front doors, a pair for the rear doors, an amplifier and a "Cleansweep" oem interface thingi. All the bits and bobs iv ordered are from JL Audio, items are as follows:

JL Audio TR400 : http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_components.php?comp_id=59
JL Audio ZR650: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_components.php?comp_id=65
JL 300/4 Amp : http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=437
Cleansweep: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_cleansweep_pages.php?page_id=79

To be honest i did not want to change the oem head unit as i am rather happy with it and i am just about starting to get used to it. This is the reason why i decided to give this cleansweep interface a try. Cant really say i know any one whos used it but im willing to take the plunge and to find out!

Decided not to go for a sub and amp at the moment at the moment as im looking into getting a gruppe m air intake and possibly a miltek cat back too!

All this is good news but some bad news....was driving up the rock on a narrow road when some f**k*r managed to clip my mirror...the mirror casing is scratched, indicator smahsed and so is the mirror lens. VW quoted £240 just for the mirror and i dont really think i have much choice...any suggestions??

Thanks for reading, look forward to your comments!!

Looks like a good setup there Manu, I will be very interest on your feedback on the cleansweap unit once you have fitted it as I want to consider speaker/amp upgrades in the future but don't want to drop the OEM headunit.

Sorry to hear about the wing mirror scrap.

Everything i bought, i chose to buy off eBay as authorised dealer prices are abit too much for a set of speakers imo...wasnt in a rush to get them and dont mind having to wait a week or two for them to come from america.
All the prices i am about to state are as from what i can remember as i really cant be arsed to look them up again!
TR400 - £60
TR650 - £250
300/4 - £200
Cleansweep - £200

Still waiting for all the bits and pieces so no update really but once iv got everything together il let you know how it goes!

Nice install g-tee-i  and welcome

A 10" sub is what I was recommended by a pro installer as I like faster beat music and a 10" has better response. Larger subs still rock, but are better suited to proper bassheads like SteveS

See my sig for my install

Thanks for the welcome!

And I couldn't agree with you more in regards to the 10" sub!

Hi

Can anyone recommend a good place in the UK to buy JL audio equipment? I'm from South Africa and the prices here are ridiculous

Have a friend in London who will be coming down soon, so he could perhaps lug it down for me!

Thanks
M

Hello and guess i could welcome you to the forum too! (2 posts :P)

Im from Gibraltar and we do not have any authorised dealers here and over in spain the prices are slightly higher then the UK. I refused to spend around £500 for a set of speakers so decided best place to check was eBay! On eBay found everything what i was looking for it and it worked out to alot less than what it would have cost if i were to buy from a dealer/audio supplier. Three out of the four items i ordered have been delivered to me after about two weeks, just waiting for one more set of speakers before the car goes into the shop to get the kit fitted

If it interests you, let me know and i could give you the sellers names or the shops names so you could have a look

Thanks Manu, the shops names would be appreciated. I could get my pal to check it out.
I had joined the forum before the recent crash- but my (few) posts and threads have vanished

Anyway- great to be back!

Hey Mervman

You are from JHB right?

I would suggest trying Autostyle. They have a large amount of quality speakers and amplifiers and can also do installs. They are based in JHB. I beleive they also have a website.

Hi Mike

Yup, am from JHB. I have tried Autostyle, however they do not stock JL products. In fact very few places have the stuff- and it is crazy money! If the price is converted directly it is double the price in the States and more.

I have found a store that is (relatively) more reasonable. I will try them out.

Thanks for the help.
