Title: CD changer problems
Post by: T_J_G on 01 August 2008, 14:37
So since I've had my car i've had problems with the CD changer or the magazine and I'm trying to work out what to replace. Changers going for about £55 on ebay at the moment. With magazines being approx £30 new.

Anyway when loaded up with CD's it takes a while and says on radio "checking magazine" when it comes to read the CD it says "CD error" which in the handbook says the CD is the wrong way up. I've tried both ways many times. It can define when there is not a CD in the slot though and says 'NO CD'. So do you think this points to a failure of the laser as it can't read the CD and relays the info that it's the wrong way inserted? I've tried original CD's and bcopys. We have had one song playing from the changer but can't get anything now.

It's a boot mounted genuine VW 6 disc changer.

Any ideas?

Tim

couldn't be bothered to spend over £100, been bidding on changers for last few weeks and they've been reaching £60ish. So well happy. Just hope it works now.

Leaves me more money for proper mods :afro:

I'm thinking maybe some coilovers to set it up for some wheels in the future. ALthough i still need to rid the wood trim but just waitng for bits to come up on ebay. Or even the W8 light but then id do need a remap! haha. May wait till payday before I buy the next thing. I also asked bout a show iscount on milltek stand at Motor Show but they aint got back to me.

Hi sorry if this has been covered anywhere else but ive recently brought a golf 1.8T 1999 model and it also has the 6 cd auto changer in the boot and i have the exact same problem it comes up with checking magazine then reads cd error regardless of type of cd and ive tried both ways up. Is there anyway of fixing this without replacing any parts does anyone know?

Thanks in advance going mad without my music!

Good buy Tim!!

The most common reason for the CD players to go faulty is due to the rear washer fault before the mod came out. The players are mounted below where the washer tube runs, and so when the tube came off of the wiper assembly the washer fluid ran down the inner panel and over the CD changers. I expect your car has had the rear wash upgrade at some point, but it's worth checking to make sure it's dry in there!!
