Title: Problem with Climate Control
Post by: yerdad on 31 July 2008, 20:35
I'm having a problem with my Climate Control and was wondering if anyone could help.

The car has been back twice to the dealers and the gas leaked away within two weeks both times.
The second time the dealer found that 'gas was leaking past the valve on the filler pipe' but just to make sure that they have all the options covered they say that the 'condensor is badly damaged from stone chips but does not appear to be leaking'. (Looks like they will be wanting to replace this next time I take it back in and since the dealer is saying the damage is from stone chips I doubt that it will be covered by warranty and I can feel an expensive item )

Quickly peering through the grill I can see that that the condensor is damaged but not excessively so but then I can't see all of it.

The car has done just over 23000 mainly motorway miles since new.

Does anybody think that Volkswagen would put this part in such a place that it could be damaged to the point of needing replacing in such a short space of time?

regards,

Glyn

Yeah, I phoned them up, its usually £100 but at the moment they will do it for £75. Kwik Fit will do it for £45  . . . ..  you do the math.

My climate control broke 4 weeks ago. Dealer said compressor was shot so they ordered me one and got a specialist to flush the system and re-gas. Luckily this was covered under my warranty but looked at the bill and compressor was just shy of £600 alone!! It is an expensive job, good luck!!!

My aircon failed Tuesday evening - the front screen and windows misted entirely in about ten seconds, had to open all the windows to clear the glass.
Just been told the compressor has failed, can't get a new one 'til next week.
Luckily, it's still in warranty.

What's next, I wonder

My compressor also packed up a couple of weeks ago, needed a new compressor and condenser-drier unit under warranty.
