Title: Pirelli Buyers
Post by: Pirelli_P on 31 July 2008, 13:14
Hi all, heard this was the place to be for GTI owners!

I have placed an order for a new GTI Pirelli, due Sept! My current car is a Mk 3 Golf 1.4 SE 3dr in Candy White, '96 P-reg 40,000 miles. Still looks reasonable but obv performance isn't its strong point! As this is my first new car and having only driven my current Golf, the performance of the Pirelli should be a revelation! Other than a short 10min test drive in a standard gti I haven't driven one properley so rather excited to get it now.

In my view the seats look far better in the flesh than they do in the promotional material. I myself wasn't too struck by them either however having seen and sat in one my opinion did change massively; also love the wheels and the contrasting yellow stitching too. For me it was between a Pirelli (see spec below) and a standard GTI with recaro's, xenons and same as the Pirelli spec i chose. I did enquire about any remaining new ed30 but of the 4 left all were v basic and not my dream purchase. I squeezed close to £1000 off the price from the dealer in Reading.

So anyway wondering who here has a GTI Pirelli or has one on order or thinking of getting one. Post any pics if you have any, I shall once I take delivery.

My spec options:
3dr, manual
Diamond Black Perl
Xenons
Luxury pack
Parking sensors
Multifunction steering wheel with Highline
Service Pack

Upon delivery I shall upgrade the stereo, add headlight protectors and change the front and rear VW badges to black ones.

Thanks!
Paul

Welcome to the asylum, once in, you can never leave!

Well done on the new purchase, I'm sure it's going to be a wonderful car. The difference in power is amazing. My previous car was a Saxo diesel and going to a turbo powered GTI was a bit of a shock!

When I press the loud pedal, it still makes me giggle like a little girl!

I have been after an Edition 30 for a while and have found a few but the finance on them is too much p.m and it worked out better if I actually go for a new GTI due to lower APR's on newer cars (this is on PCP) . However I found a 5dr DSG Ed 30 un-registered today which has Sat Nav, the works for £22,490 but it's red and not sure if I want red (although it does look lovely to be fair!).

Anyway, having specced up a 'standard' GTI on-line via a broker, I suddenly realised that most of the extras I wanted (armrest, tints, 18inch wheels) actually come as standard on the Pirelli so I think I will be going down this route now.

Broker4cars.com OTR price with MFSW/Highline is £22,877.37 for a Pirelli and that is around the same price as speccing up a GTI with extras.

I want to just go for the Pirelli but im worried that I will not like the seats/yellow stitching - this is the only thing holding me back at the moment and trying to find a dealer who has one to see in the flesh is just not happening. I can just see my car being delievered and me hating the seats to death and wishing I had an ED30!!

Congrats on the new purchase and welcome to the ''soon to have no spare cash'' forum!!

Although I don't like what I've seen so far with the seats etc, I will reserve judgment until I actually see one in the flesh. Would like to have seen one at the motorshow but as VW were not present   I couldn't!!

I want one in yellow. But I'm not going to be able to buy one until they drop into my sub £1K price range, so about 2020!

The Reading dealer has one too, thats where Iv got mine from. I agree though, you'd need to come clear in your mind that you def wanted the Pirelli package because it is a little different, which i like. Shame i haven't actually got mine otherwise id post some pics.

I had a similar dilemna with which version to get.. All ED30's left had minimal spec and wrong colour etc. and a specced up standard gti came to same price as my specced Pirelli so I went for the Pirelli. Plus i love the wheels and there aren't gonna be too many of them around!

Im in Surrey so a bit of a trek just to look at some seats

Maybe I will just have to hang fire for a bit til some come to light or hope that an ED30 comes in that I can tinker the finance to my liking if I can.

It's a bit silly that VW expect you to buy a car that you can't actually see in the flesh.

Surely Reading in Berkshire isn't too far. They have a 4 door, black, dsg one in the showroom. Go there and check out the seats in person that way you will be able to make an informed decision!

Stop it you're tempting me.......!!

A red ED30 went past me last night on the way home from work and I did think it looked lovely.

Oh sh!t now you've got my brain working overtime. Sat Nav as well.... It could be THE one... and I wouldn't have to wait until September...

In fact Phil would probably ban you from the forum if you got it

birmingham have a few in stock , the seats look aweful , in fact i was nt impressed with any of it they were stood next to a red ed 30 and that looked miles better imo !!
Title: Re: Pirelli Buyers
Post by: Phil mcavity on 31 July 2008, 20:07
yes if you buy this red ed30, its your duty to do a swop with me as mine doesnt havea sunroof on it, and ive taken good care of it clocking up 20,000 miles well cared and producing stock 233 horsepower.

And you are banned from heading into south hampshire as i am "the only gay red in the Village!"

dont mull it over, get the red one, miles better looking then they dont do a pirelli in red. They stand out from a distance way more then a black GTi in any guise(sorry Black boys but thats its only let down distinguishing between all 3 mk5 models). Red really stands out especially you can see it coming., and looks fab in the sun.

The colour choice for the pirelli should be the yellow and some other colours like the Mango orange they did the farenheit GTi in the states.
Something that makes this model stand out apart from different wheels and being run over by a fresh set of pirelli's on your arse cheeks.

20,000 miles - so you've 'loosened' it up for me as well! The deal sounds too good to turn down

totally agree Magoo, if you like the attention, then red certainly is one of the 2 loudest colours in a GTi
