as above if i take my foot off the throttle then gradually put down power on the motorway the car stutters till i get it out of the flat spot i take it injectors and the usual culprits first like leads etc which i have replaced already. Any other ideas? i have tried a search by the way but no post shows exactly the same problem, si far, i have tried all sorts in fac ti am bewildered now as allthe parts i have tried are second hand. Thanks

16v or 8v?
I've had this twice (on my 16v). First time it was the overrun cut-off valve. Unpluged it and everything was hunky dory, although it might be the ISV controller behind the dash which is at fault (apparently also does something to control the OCV).
Second time it was an arcing lead/loose spark plug.
Also check your timing.
-
run it at night and spray a fine mist of water over the leads & coil, see if you can spot any arcing. THe over-run cutoff is completly controlled by the isv control unit :)
-
8 valve sorry
-
ideally with k-jet you need to get the pressure tested once you have ruled out spark & compression problems, then you can see whats up. have you checked the metering head moves throughout its travel smothly and is clean? Also has the idle, co and timing been checked?
-
sorry its digipants, yeah idle is spot on as is timing and co,
-
dunno where i got the idea it a k-jet! id say check the vac hoses and the throttle switches!
-
robably cos t'ther lad was on about valvers! thanks as you might remember from my private messages i still have the lag from idle too maybe its related. I have changed everything, bloody thing,
-
T'was I who started the K-Jet conversation.
Orginal post didn't say what engine it was. Muppet.
(I jest! )

i have the exact same problem on my 8v digi at the same speeds your saying(in 5th gear i presume), changed plugs, rotar arm, dizzy and fuel filter which didnt solve it, my isv definetly needs replacing/fixing as it fluctuates at idle, BUT i think the problem is to do with the second larger butterfly in the throttle body opening and the fuel/air mixture being wrong. im not a mechanic so i may be wrong but thats my opinion. and i will be watching this thread for any help too.
i also have that problem in 4th gear at certain rpm, not sure what rpm of the top of my head tho.

yeha was just thinking im going to clena the throttle body out tomorrow, il let you know, have you checked the dizzy is advancing properly? i could be barking up the wrong tree though
-
dose it do it at full throttel, if it starts playing up and if you floor it dose it sort itself out ? if so i would have a look at the airflow meter.
-
no it does it when you take your foot off then put it down again and if you accelerate out of it its fine, i have since changed the afm, whhich (fingers crossed) has worked. Cheers for input alos put some Forte gas cleaner in the tank hope that helps.
-
I used to have this problem on my 16v , oil would make its way down the dizzy shaft & mess with the hall sender, i used to pull it off every other week give it a godd spraying with WD40 , till i got fed up & bought new/recon unit of ebay , never had the problem again.
-
hi simpon just a idea mine did this also!
have you got a KandN stylee air cone thing if you have try the standard airbox back on.
mine was terrible until i changed mine back!
-
i have a drilled arbox, would this affect it?
-
no not had anything checked properly yet, my mates a mechanic thou and his gonna take it in to work for me and check it all out with all the garages electronic stuff.
-
did u ever sort the problem out? i did last weekend, turns out that a wire that goes somewhere near the throttle body had snapped, i wired it back up and its running perfect,
-
My digifant would judder and then cut out at junctions. The idle revs would drop real low.
I just swapped my MAF sensor for a good one.
-
I had a very similiar problem which was caused by a faulty ignition control unit. I'm not sure that I've used the proper name for it. Anyway, its found in the top left hand corner of the engine bay. There's a pic at this address:

yep, thats where the broken wire was coming from on mine,

I have the exact same problem on my 8v, same speed, revs & 5th gear. Plugs, leads etc have been changed, tune & session on rollers but still there. Treid unplugging the lift pump in the boot, changing ecu & fuel pump relays but still the same. Waiting for Volkswizard to send me a replacement dizzy as the hall sender may be faulty.

Changed the dizzy today & the car now seems fine.......did 8 runs at 70mph in 5th & no juddering just pulling really well. Maybe you guys should give this a try......good luck.
