Title: 2.0 running sluggish
Post by: Madmax on 30 July 2008, 19:44
As above my car seems to be running sluggish & needs more throttle then i remember to pull away. Obviously only being 115bhp it's not going to be
a rocket but i'm sure it used to be much more smooth.

Not a lot of info for you, sorry. Could it be something as simple as plugs? Do i you reckon i should book it in for a mini service?

Also, where can i find the stock aerial that comes on the car? Ebay only has aftermarket ones it seems & don't really wanna pay dealer prices..

Cheers for looking

In answer to your question it could be the plugs but i would really doubt it.

How many miles have thay done when was it last serviced?

Brilliant, thank you so much. :)

So if it is the fault that you said, it'll come up with the code & any other problems that may occur?
Thanks again.

Yep it will give you a code - you then look in the book which comes with it and it will tell you the fault. Then you can fix the fault, and clear off the code using the reader

Should it come up clear or is there always a few things that get crop up? Is it in depth like checking sparkplugs & filters or will i need to check them myself?

Sorry for the questions..

Should be clear no codes unless you have a problem. It will pick up missfires etc - but as your was only serviced 5k ago should be fine. I would check filters and pipes to see of anything obvious

just a word of warning that no code readers or VAG COM can pick up an intermittent MAF fault - they're absolute buggers to diagnose

common fault is flat spots through the rev range and diminishing fuel economy

You could also try unplugging the maf to see if it runs better

A throttle body clean wouldn't go a miss as well
Worked wonders on mine.

What does uplugging this 'MAF' do. Thanks for that guide Rich, will give it a try tomorrow, is there an alternative to using carb cleaner tho?

If you unplug it and it runs better you have a faulty maf (put the code reader on it first as unplugging it will thow up a fault code). No use carb/intake cleaner.

Indeed, most of the stuff is too complicated for me, i like the stuff like 'how to clean' 'how to remove aerial'
