Was at the motor show in London the other day and came across the new limited edition Renault Megane R26R - the fastest Front wheel car to go around Nurgburg.

I know its a renault but Looks a real weapon, and for the price! all the modding you would have to do to your golf to compete, would be bucks.
am happy with my edition 30 as more pratical but a bit of me wants to give it ago!
-
No, its French.
Its also likey to surrender if it goes anywhere near Germany....
-
Looks utter sh!te and it's French - hating the decals and hating the front end "gormless" smile it has. Good luck putting the track Toyo's on it - I can see all 230 Uk supplied ones ending up in ditches when it's wet. Saying this it would whip my standard GTI but I don't care
-
I do love it too and it'll be a right weapon on the twisties and no slouch on the starights. But for the mileage I do, it's not exaclty practical and I can go quicker in mine in comfort.. (well in a straight line anyway)
-
3 door only so no good for me. Renault need a pat on the back for going to the extreme they have though. That is gonna weigh a good 150kg less than my Cupra.
-
I had a go in the R26 F1 ............................................. and although it was fast, I couldn't use it on an ordinary road as it shook my fillings out and crucified my back in the space of 15 minutes. To live with one permanently must be the reserve of sado-masochists :lipsrsealed:
-
I saw that at the motorshow yesterday, i think it looked awesome, any car that comes out of the factory with polycarbonate windows, roll cage, titanium exhaust, carbon fibre bonnet and semi slick tyres is amazing .
I would seriously consider getting one next year, just for weekend blasts (need to save up first lol)
It is the ultimate hot hatch imo, i love my ed30 to bits but against the r26r on the twisties it wouldnt stand a chance.
-
As said before, fair play to Renault for building it, but not sure you can compare to a GTI??? It's more an occasional/weekend/track plaything if you ask me.
p.s. there is an option to delete the chav decals
-
I also saw this at the motorshow. You can compare this to the GTi, its just not pactical to use daily. Its a weekend / Track car and I can think of a lot better things to have as one of them.
-
It cant be compared to the gti, its aimed at a completely different market. I think it comes very well equiped for the price, i think vw should have had a play with the suspension and some bigger brakes for the ed30.
-
You certainly wouldn't be able to stuff as much bush in the back of one of those go-karts as you could in a GTI
-
I think its got a lot of storage space with the back seats removed! The review says it's a better ride than the current r26 f1, but I think the 5 point seat belt may come a little annoying for every day driving... I only drive evening and weekends so would work well
I also prefer driving quickly on twisties than doing 140plus on motoways!
So def some thing to think about
-
....Does anyone know which limited slip diff it has? Quaife? Peloquin? AnOther?
-

enough said, cant believe someone even mentioned renault on here!!!!
-
I've got some bumpf at work sent to me by Renault, I'll have a look tomorrow Robin.
BTW, I meant you wouldn't get much on the back if you had the optional monkey frame fitted  Oh how my kids would love to hang off that
-
It has a GKN driveline helical lsd. Not heard of gkn but havent heard a bad review yet on the handling front.
-
I seriously entertained the notion of getting megane r26/Civic Type R/Golf GTI. I plumped for the GTI because it's a better all round car. The R26 is too harsh apparently, great on track, crap on normal roads. The Type R did not have the build quality of the GTI nor did it feel as fast or sound as good.
GTI FTW.

Quick clip of the r26r in action. Just read that its 123kg lighter than the r26 which is pretty light already.

Sounds awful!! Is that Darth Vader driving with a bad cold!!

....Yep, very disappointing vid imo.
-
What's that, brand snobbery?
As already touched on here, how good to have the manufacturer pushing out products like that?! It's not meant to compete with the GTI, it's just some fun, like wot dem VW had years ago. Production of it is so low, I doubt it even makes any money. Plus the Megane is end of life so it is totally just a 'look what we can get up to' project and for that alone they should be encouraged.
:)

....I said the vid was disappointing.
Good for Renault but it's an entirely different kind of car to the GTI Mk5 which is a better allround road car, whereas the Renault is a good track car.

To put the 8:16 in to some sort of comparison

And with newer cars here
