Ok firstly thank god the forum is back well done all involved sounds like a mare with the ISP. I work for one myself and know what they are like some of the people here have no idea!
Right I done it, On Friday last week I took my MkV GTI to JKM Performance in Portsmouth and Jim at JKM sorted it right out with a Stage 1 Revo. WOW its just so  now !
It has made the car drive like you would imagine a GTI to drive like. I was always a little disappointed when giving it some heavy right foot it just felt that it was lacking that edge and just wanted that little bit more of a punch, but now its more of a knock out blow! The power delivery is instant very smooth and very responsive the pull you get though each gear is awesome and truly brings a smile to your face. I joined the dual carriage yesterday evening behind another MkV GTI on a 07 plate he gave it some so I followed and under took him in the inside lane. Absolutely Pi**ed all over him in terms of acceleration and he didn't look to happy infact very bemused that the same car was soooo much quicker. He is probably down the stealer today thinking there is something wrong with his as appeared so slow!!
Got a Mkv GTI - Get Revo Stage 1 you will NOT be disappointed

so are you coming to the RR day on october 4th at jkm then??????
-
next you'll be onto stage 2...

Glad to hear its everything you hoped it would be! Im in "remap phase" at the moment - my car is totally standard at present but feel the car is lacking in the exta ooomph dept. - ive convinced myself that Revo is the way to go after many weeks of trawling through all the posts and info i could find.
Im still undecided whether to take the plunge now or wait until my warranty expires in December or even when my insurance is up for renewal next February - I am currently insured with Privilege and when I enquired about the extra cost of the Revo remap - I was quoted an extra £148 for the remainder of my policy but a hike in my excess by £300!!!! Is this normal?
How much is the Stage 1 Revo remap at present and are they doing the free SPS switch in some kind of deal - im sure I read this somewhere before the site went down? Also the Revo website states my local supplier is Aldon Automotive in Merry Hill - anyone had any dealings with them or should I take the car to the HQ in Daventry?
After reading your post pridders I may take the plunge sooner than expected!!

It put an extra £170 on my insurance but didn't increase the excess. My remap cost £580 and included a new panel filter didn't see anything about the switch being included but to be honest I don't see there is any point. If you drive the car "normally" you will achieve the same MPG if not better. Today I got and extra 3MPG than before the remap as had a nice steady drive in to work on the M4. Get it done mate, loads of fun especially on the dry roads we got at the moment
-
Blimey - so no increase in xs - might ring them back and see what they are playing at - might increase premium thou!
My other sticking point is live about a mile from where I work - so most days the car only does 2/3 miles at most - its get a few more miles a couple of nights a week when I go the gym and I do use it a lot at weekends. Would this be a problem?
Also, after the remap, would i need any extra add-ons such as an upgraded DV etc - just wanting to know the extra costs so I can budget etc!
Thanks for the advice! Believe me there are more questions to come..........

Hi Phil...Now that the forum is back up and running, I await to see your mod ;-)...perhaps a vid :_)
I felt totally lost without the forum and the lack of communication with fellow members. Glad it's back now. Hope it stays this way. :-)
-
I can echo all thats been said re Revo! :D
I am going to get it done as soon as I can afford it...had the trial and loved it!
Also did increase my normal driving mpg by 3mpg.

Just out of interest what % increase in BHP does a Revo Stage 1 remap usually give as Ive seen conflicting figures from the people that have them and the revo website - the reason I ask is that my insurance company base the premium hike on a banded basis - less than 20% (small increase) and then between 21% and 30%! (bigger increase!). I know a 20% increase in BHP is going to be 240bhp max - would this be realistic for insurance purposes? :undecided:
-
i would expect around 225bhp after remap, considering redrobins has extensive mods ,stage one revo and pulling 236bhp,and one one of the most accurate Rolling roads in the uk recently.
-
Thanks Phil - I was basing the post on RR's graph which had produced 236bhp - why does the Revo website state 255bhp as a possible target - a sales ploy?
So I can realistically state to my insurance company that the % increase in bhp will defo be less than 20% Where are the most noticeable gains then - in mid range torque?
Should save me enough dosh for some other goodies!
-
yes , i would say 230 would be the figure to quote to the insurance company. 240-250 is stretching it and abit OTT.
-
Cheers for the information Phil.
Just rang Privilege - policy runs until next Feb - for a 15% bhp increase they want an extra £131.25 premium and the xs is a compulsory £500!!!!!!!!!
May have to think about Greenlight etc when the polisy come up for renewal!?!?
-
Time to to to stage 2 then
