Title: Reversing lights wiring fault.
Post by: richw911 on 30 July 2008, 00:46
Common fault on the mk4 is the reversing lights to stop working this is usually caused by a the wiring braking off on the switch on the gearbox. Have a look under the cover on top of the gearbox.

Definitely check this first before buying a new switch!!

Have a look at this pic:

The wires are bought seperately from the plug, it depends on the diameter of the wire which repair wire you will need (0.35mm or 1mm) - 1 wire has two connectors on it and can be cut in half to make two repair wires :afro:

Whether this wire issue would tigger an engine cut off when put to reverse gear. OR this is just for reverse light ??

see my original problem.

I have a problem, when I put the car in reverse the engine cuts off completely and the cluster goes crazy for few seconds. I removed the reverse bulbs from the holder in order not to let the engine cut off when reversing. But as you know, reverse lights are essential so I must fix this problem. Should I change the switch, or is there a problem with the wiring ? Thanks.
