Has anybody had this fitted?
http://www.racelogic.co.uk/traction.htm
Expensive? Reliable? Effective? Restrictive?
I like the idea of being able to dial it in and out - I don't REALLY want it there the whole time, but in the wet, it'd be nice....

hello mate,
from looking at the manual if you already have ABS then i think all you need to do is swap the control unit for a ABS/EDL unit.
-
hmmmm..... sounds tempting... anybody got one of those lying around for me to give a shot??
How much do those control units cost? I still have NO idea how much either cost...
Would the Racelogic one be much better performance / worth the extra hassle for installing?
-
probably cost loads mate, try a breakers yard :)
-
know of any difs between VR6 / 16V units... if so should I be going for 16V (more compatible?) or the VR6 (more responsive?)...
Any ideas on places that might have that sort of thing??
-
i think the abs/edl unit should be the same for the 16v and vr6.
i pressume you have ABS?
i will check to see if there is any difference between the hydraulic blocks fitted to our cars.

Mine defintely has ABS installed.... I think was standard wit hte 8V Cabriolet - the extra weight needs something to help it stop!
-
I'm putting this one to rest for the time being... it's around ?1000 for TC for my 8V. A bit steep for my budget right now.
This car's gonna have to hit "sentimental project" status before I splash out that sort of cash on it... either that or it's gonna have to have so much toque and power after the next upgrade that I can't keep the front wheels on the ground any more (unlikey!)....

i have abs on my vr6 dont think it works thought :( whats that thing called for the traction control isit just a relay ? myvr in the wet can be abitof ahad full if you nail it so id like it to be honest asthetyres arn't chep ones

VR6 should have ABS and TC as standard.
When the car starts up the ABS light (right hand side, to the right of the light dial) should pop on for about 1 second and then go out.
If it doesn't come on at all: the previous owner removed the bulb to cover up a fault / the bulb has blown.
If it come on and stays on: faulty - get it checked!
Find an open stretch of road prefereably with a bit of water on it and drive along: even 10mph should be enough, start off slower if you're not sure, try a bit faster if nothing's happening. Make sure there's nothing to crash into (trees/walls on the sides, oncoming traffic, people travelling up behind you, etc, etc). Then drop the anchors!
Hold the brake pedal down hard and you'll feel the pedal pulse and vibrate under-foot. According to the manual "do NOT pump the pedal" as you would do on a non-ABS car... as it stops the ABS from working.
I've only had the ABS work in the last little bit of braking (when you stop braking progressively and are more likely to push the pedal down harder)... pretty easy if you've got uprated pads and discs and even easier if you've got naff tyres - I only fit one of these two categories. It should work fine at higher speeds too, but I've never needed it. Touch wood!
