Hi,
last week the golf gt tdi lost all boost. checked the obvious pipes and electrical conections. seem ok.
i call VW up to ask for a vag com, and they want £100. so i thought sod that, i'll have a look at the turbo shaft first.
anyway long and short of it is i ended up taking of the entire inlet and turbo/manifold.
there is a lot of crap (almost 1/8" of oil/gunk) caped to the inside of the inlet manifold and the connecting valve. tho it has done 117k miles!!
also the intercooler pipe was oily. anyway
the turbo shaft will not spin freely and is very sooty.
there seems to be a very small flat spot on turning, but i think this may be the sh!t inside on the vanes.
also the actuator rod is locked solid!!
anyway took it to a turbo place they want £385 +vat (so about £450) to recon my turbo?
they also reckon they cant supply an actuator seperatly.
so my question is do i get them to completly overhaul the turbo. or do i look at finding a 2nd hand one, or an aftermarket one.
bear in mind im probably going to sell the car towards the end of the year so dont want to go crazy.
id apreciate ur help, as the wifes using the escort cossie, to go to work at the mo, and that is a scary thought!!

Dont know how your going to clean it, plus if the actuator is clogged up chances are the turbo is going to be.
see if you can move the actuator rod backwards and forwards
