Hi everyone, looking to buy a mk2 16v gti and drove my friends today which he's getting ready to sell.
Car seemed nice and solid and revved up really easily but when braking sharply the engine sometimes died. Although he has no knowledge of a lightened flywheel being fitted it seemed to rev alot easier than any other valver i've test driven so could the lightened flywheel be the cause of the engine dying? if not what esle could it be as im seriously considering buying it?

The timing would be the first thing to look at, as it may rev nice and freely, but the mixture could be out.
What does it idle at, as the 16v should idle at 1000rpm + or - 50?

If it really does only occur under heavy braking, then it could be loose electrical connections, vac hose or manifold bolts etc. Will be time consuming to find though.
