Title: vin plate - MK2 Gti
Post by: katana on 21 May 2008, 19:09
Just got hold of 8v Gti for restoration project. Slam panel has been replaced by previous owner but no vin plate. Is the vin number any where else on vehicle ? or How do I get another vin plate ?
Car looks ok except usual rust on arches & sills - will post pictures soon , going to keep "old skool" original

Welcome to the site!
Can't help you with the vin problem

However make sure you set up a thread in the project section, as a resto will always make for interesting reading

Is the part under the scuttle panel completely flat???

Not sure if you have seen it, but its on here somewhere, by txting a number costing £3 they txt you back with all the details about your car, cheap HPI check, worth doing.

Im sure there must be a stamp somewhere else hidden, Im none the wiser where though sorry  :undecided:

VIN plate is located on inner wing, up by the o/s bonnet hinge, and never on the slam panel!  C/N is stamped into the bulkhead panel in front of the wiper motor, and can be viewed through the black plastic cover that covers the wiper motor. build code sticker can be found on the boot floor or rear panel, and if your lucky, you can find the build code sheet, tucked under the carpet, under the rear seat... dont all rush now!
